A Game-Changing Flat Iron from Dyson

next
Finding Comfort (an update on content plans)

Leave it to Dyson to blow our minds (pun intended) with a new kind of blow dryer, and then follow that up with a curling and smoothing device that uses AIR to contort the hair.

And now Dyson has just launched a new kind of flat iron called the Corrale Straightener. It’s a straightener with flexible plates meant to shape around your hair in one pass.

You may have heard of the phrase “single-pass” from times I’ve talked about T3 Micro tools. The whole concept is that you can achieve the result you want (a curl or a smooth section) in a single pass of the tool through the hair. This prevents users from running over and over a single section causing unnecessary heat damage and friction on the hair.

Once you use an iron that gives you the result you want with a “single-pass”, you’ll never go back.

Beyond the effectiveness of the iron, one of the other amazing features is that it can be used cordlessly! It comes with a really nice charging dock where you can fully charge the iron in 70 minutes. From there, you have 30 minutes of cord-free time to use it. If you forget to charge it, simply attach the magnetic cord onto the base of the iron and use it like you would normally.

The iron is big, and you can tell you are holding a hefty tool in your hand. The grooved plates on the exterior help guide the hair smoothly into the iron. This is helpful, without a doubt, but it is a feature I could probably live without. If you use a flat iron to curl your hair, like so many do, the grooves will certainly help keep the section of hair you are working with smooth against the iron.

I love that it offers 3 typical heat settings, and it’s nice to know that the iron itself regulates the temperature 100 times a minute, so you won’t get any hot spots.

I’ve used a handful of different flat irons through the years, and I have to say that the Dyson Corrale is fantastic. It runs through the hair smoothly, quickly, and is very effective at smoothing and straightening. I haven’t used it for adding a bend to my hair yet, but I plan to try that soon. I’ve used irons in the past that snag against the edges of the hair but this iron doesn’t!

In order to have the most success when styling your hair smooth and straight make sure you prep your hair with smoothing and heat-protecting products. I rounded up a few of my personal favorites below! Flat irons are hot, and you should only use them at a temperature that works to get your hair straight, which isn’t necessarily the highest temperature! Always start with the lowest heat setting and work your way up.

For the price of this iron, I had pretty high expectations. I’m dying to try it on someone with coarse or textured hair to really see it perform, but for the sake of my personal use, I was really pleased.

This post was sponsored by Nordstrom, all opinions are my own. My dress is from Nordstrom and can be found here

Which one above is the heat protectant? Thanks. Love your dress!

Can you use this iron to make beachy waves as well? I was wondering if for the price it would be a 2-1 device. Thank you for all your posts!

Kate says · 03.25.20

Yep you can use this iron just like any other flat iron, so beachy waves are certainly an option!

I’m jealous! The iron sounds like a great one… would get it myself if I had the money! ❤️✨

Kate, I really appreciate your blog, and reading it and seeing your sweet children right now is such a calm in this surreal storm. If you are able to, I would really love to see a post on helping me trim my husband’s hair, lol! He is finding it getting too long, and since I have never cut anyone’s hair before, perhaps this might be a blog post that some of your other readers might find helpful as well! Thank you for all that you do!

You were so excited when this was released! You said you purchased it right away and yet it’s actually sponsored by Nordstrom!

Reply
Kate says · 03.24.20

Yes, this is a sponsored post but I did purchase it from Nordstrom. All of these are facts and I’m not sure what the point of your comment is…

Reply
Maddy says · 03.24.20

Right? Purchasing it yourself but then being compensated plus some doesn’t really equal purchasing it yourself, in my opinion.

Kate says · 03.24.20

All I’m saying is that I’m being explicitly clear about the components of this post. Neither Dyson nor Nordstrom provided me with the product. I chose what I wanted to review (could have been any beauty item…) and purchased it.

I just hope you can see how many some followers may be a bit jaded by the dichotomy of tone in your instagram post, (which, while yes, though not necessarily untruthful, certainly implied that this purchase was independent of any outside influence), and this sponsored post. I don’t think anyone’s objection to this post is the fact that it was sponsored. I think it’s that many people trust you and would be willing to spend $500 based on your recommendation; however, to then read that your decision to purchase was heavily influenced by the fact that you would be compensated — I think many probably feel a bit mislead. I know I do.

Kate, you seem to be a semi intelligent woman. Surely you can understand your readers why your readers perceive your review as being influenced by Nordstrom. It is not difficult. You bought a $500 straightener, knew you were going to be paid by Nordstorm to describe said item and post with pictures of you using it, and knew your account would be refunded the price plus I’m sure an amount that would make us cringe.

I suggest you ask your team to more closely monitor what you say on Instagram, along with prior posts, to ensure you aren’t telling half truths.

Lucy, as an influencer I can completely understand that sponsored posts can be confusing for non-influencers to understand. It’s actually pretty simply and I was actually working on a series about my work as an influencer right before this pandemic hit.
I can understand that this post may not apply to some readers right now, but I shared a blog post on Monday explaining that it’s my intention to continue posting and sharing content that I typically share on The Small Things. You should read it.
I do not know what you are talking about on Instagram, but I assure you that my instagram account is not monitored by anyone except myself.

Clare says · 06.17.20

What I don’t understand is your need to find issue with this when there clearly is none. Did Kate purchase the product? Yes. Did Kate note it was a sponsored product? Also yes.
How does the way or means it was purchased affect your decision to buy this item? Kate gave an honest review, and would have done the very same had she not been sponsored.
There are plenty of other things going on in the world that your time and energy would be better spent on. This is not the hill you should be choosing.

Just wondering what exactly makes it “game-changing” for you? That’s a pretty high remark. It seems from your review that it is pretty on par with your T3 (specifically the single-pass feature). Is a cordless option really that game-changing? Especially if you only get 30 minutes of use out of it (don’t turn it on and then get distracted doing your makeup!) and the size is noticeably heftier. I appreciate your review and have been looking forward to reading it ever since you said you had ordered the Dyson. I can now cross the Dyson off my new flat iron search list.

Reply
Kate says · 03.25.20

Sure, so the game-changing part is that it’s cordless! I love that fact and it makes using it really easy. 30 minutes is plenty of time for the majority of women to straighten their hair.
It may not be the right fit for you, which is fine! There are a lot of other flat irons on the market, and the T3 single pass is a great option as well!

Wow! Seems like a great flat iron but that’s a lot of money! $500 is a HUGE chunk of my income monthly. Do you have any good suggestions for options under $100?

Also I would love suggestions for how to trim my hair during the stay-in-home directive from my state. And how to cut my son’s hair??

Kate says · 03.25.20

I know! Dyson pricing is high for sure. So I’d check out the brands Hot Tools or T3 if you are looking for a good quality flat iron at a lower price point!

The timing of this post is incredibly insensitive. In an economy where MANY people are wondering where their next paycheck is coming from, much less praying they don’t get COVID-19, it’s asinine to see you posting about a $500 flat iron. In “normal” economic times, this would be considered a luxury. Posting this today, in the middle of a pandemic, shows that you are truly out of touch with your readers and what is going on in the world. Surely you could have waited to post this when things in our country/world aren’t so grim.

Hi Sally. It may help for you to read the post I shared on Monday regarding my plans for Small Things content. Trust me, as a small business owner myself I’m very aware of what is happening to the economy and how this pandemic has affected so many people, from health concerns to financial security.
It is my hope that you would understand that creating content for this site and social media channels is my business, and product reviews are a part of that. Especially **new** hair products and tools.
I have contracts with brands that I am happy to partner with and we agree on a date weeks and weeks before content is posted.
Everyone, truly everyone, is trying to keep their feet under them right now and while you are certainly free to express your feedback, I wonder if you could consider that I’m trying to make the best decisions for my business during this scary time.

The only way I could express my hair after using the corrale was to say I had “Janice hair”. From the Muppet Show… in the most positive way. It is so smooth and soft.

Kate, I just wanted to say I enjoy reading your blog every day. Even when the product isn’t one I’m looking for/interested in/needing or would choose to buy I understand how you get paid to provide this blog to me AT NO CHARGE and feel like you do a good job of explaining how a sponsored post works. That’s all.
Oh, and your kids are cute.
Have a great day!

Thanks for the review! I have also been looking forward to it since you mentioned buying it on Instagram. Thanks for continuing to provide an escape with your stories and your blog. I work in healthcare and its nice to have a distraction from reality sometimes.
Also happy to see it as a sponsored post, everyone deserves to be paid for their work 🙂

Kate, I received the iron yesterday. I purchased from Nordstrom when it was on sale last week. Both my daughter and I have thick wavy hair. I 100% agree. This iron is a game changer.! We both loved it. Thank you for review. I love your blog. And insta stories.

Kate, I have hideously wavy, frizzy fine hair. I flat iron my hair every day to avoid looking like I have a bad perm. Unfortunately my hairline is extremely damaged. I always appreciate your advice because I need it to look better and feel better about myself. I find your blog to be a bright spot so thank you. I am rooting for you.

I’ve heard that it’s not worth the $500 dollar price tag from other bloggers who have a lot of hair. I appreciate more honest reviews than ones filled with buzz words like “game changer”. The last paragraph of the post was the most truthful, you only know how it works on your already generally straight hair.

I have thick but not coarse hair. I bought the Dyson wrap and just don’t think it’s worth the money. Do you think the T3 or Hot Tools flat iron works just as well as the Dyson except for the cordless feature? Thanks

PS I am excited that you will be an aunt any day now. Congratulations!!
