My Biggest Takeaway (so far) from a Parenting Book I’m Reading

If I could only buy two high end cosmetics and the rest had to be drugstore, which two should I buy?

Personally, I would buy high end foundation and a high end moisturizer. While there are certainly drugstore options that are fantastic these are the two products that I see the biggest difference in when you spend a bit more. You can read more about some skincare products I love here!

Is it bad to pull your hair up while it’s still wet?

Yes, it is. Wet hair is much more elastic and stretchy than dry hair so by pulling it up while it’s wet you are stretching it out to potentially a weak point where it may snap. If you have to pull it up while it’s wet, use a very soft and stretchy hairtie, or even just use a clip!

How often do you wash your hair?

I usually wash my hair after I work out and I usually work out 3-5 times a week, so these days I’m washing it that often. Everyone has a different routine and hair washing need, but that is what works for me!

Quick Answer:

Where is your bathrobe from? It’s by Lake Pajamas and I love it.

When is it time to buy a new tube of mascara? If you are getting clumps regularly when applying, or if it’s been about a month, it may be time to get a new tube. Some may suggest to add a little saline solution to your tube of mascara to extend the life (I’ve tried this before) and while it can help add moisture it can also thin out the product significantly!

How do I apply liquid blush? Check this tutorial!

How do you keep up with your home when you work and have three kids? I clean every day. Whether it’s tidying, doing laundry, or wiping down counters in the kitchen, there is not a day that goes by without some amount of house work.

How do I clean my hairbrush? Check this post!

What is the difference between a cheap and expensive curling iron? I compared a few curling irons at different price points in this video!

How did you develop your skincare routine? Trial and error, as well as research. I love beauty products and skincare so I enjoy the process of finding the right system for my skin!

I love the Ask Kate posts! Question about skincare.. Do you wash your face after you do a face mask or do you just rinse it off and continue with the rest of your routine?

P.S there is no link for the video comparing the curling irons.

Replacing mascara after a month! I have nothing but admiration and respect for your tips and expertise, and no doubt that you are right on this. But holy smokes, I think I’ve had my current tube for over a year. OK, maybe two — yikes. I do wear it almost daily and realize there’s probably tons of bacteria in it by now, but it’s so hard to wrap my head around buying a tube of mascara once a month given what decent makeup costs. Eeeek.

I’ve never heard one month before either. I’ve heard three months, but I use mine way longer than that!

Thanks for all your tips and suggestions. One thing that has helped me with my mascara is to either sit on the tube at the start of my makeup application, put it in bra, or put it in a cup of hot water. This will help to warm up the mascara and make it easier to apply if it is a few weeks or a couple of months old.

I’m so glad you only wash your hair after a workout – I do the same and so many people tell me that’s not enough! Yet, my hair isn’t greasy very fast, so there’s no need!

Kate-lately I’m seeing a lot of ads for Beauty Pie -low cost, high end makeup and skin care. I was wondering if you have ever tried these products and your opinion of them.

You know I did try it! While the products were really nice, I didn’t love the payment structure/point system. It seemed confusing to me.
