Art For The Home

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten (similar).

Choosing art for my home has been a slow process. And it’s something I don’t want to rush anyway. Part of me would love to be able to cross a room off of my list titled “rooms that are not finished” but more than that I want to find art that I really love and anticipate loving for years to come.

I’ve read on some home decor blogs that cheap art is a big “no-no” for homes. I can certainly see why they say that, but fine art can be extremely expensive. And honestly, I think some of the artwork you can find at chain stores has improved greatly over the years.

I’ve found great pieces at Home Goods and World Market, as well as beautiful mirrors from Target. I found a few really fun prints at Society 6 earlier this summer and hung those up right away.

I’ve had great success with framed art from Minted in the past but ran into two back to back broken frames on a recent order. Given my otherwise perfect experience with them, I’m assuming it’s an issue with the particular frame. I still love the artwork in it and plan to get it reframed soon.

While I was browsing, I stumbled across a really cool idea from Pottery Barn. They sell a few prints together as a “gallery in a box” which makes the challenging job of creating a fresh and unique gallery wall almost too easy.

I’ve put off buying art until we landed on final paint colors for a few of the rooms in the house, and now that that is complete I’m deep in the trenches of choosing artwork for some of the rooms on the first floor. The gallery above is filled with a few of my personal favorites, but I don’t know which ones I’m going to actually pull the trigger on!

Hi Kate!! Loving this post so so much!!! Especially 1, 4, and 10. I see you have an Emily Jeffords print already in 4 but if you’re leaning toward the tones in your 10, she has some gorgeous ones in those tones. The playfulness of 5 and 7 are fun!! And the graphic nature of 8 catches my eye as well. How ever will you decide???!?!!

I love choosing art work for my home. It’s such a great way to personalize a space and bring some visual interest. My home is still deep in renovation so I won’t be art picking for a while, so I’m envious! But I still do like to browse, so thanks for the options.

Hi Kate!
I’m no art student…BUT it seems to me alot of this art looks like I can paint this!! I play around south painting on canvas from just Hobby Lobby. I’m telling you beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyways but you will be surprised! Your kids may even surprise you with an awesome abstract! Start small and then work up…I don’t know, just my 2 cents! Love whatever you choose though…

1, 5, and 6 are my favorites from the group. I like soft colors and botanical prints. You have a very eclectic selection of prints to choose from. I have also had great luck with Wayfair and Amazon when looking for a new print on canvas.
Good luck!

Love Society6! I like to decorate with photography from my travels (framed nicely, of course). I also try to pick up some kind of art from each trip, which makes it even more special. Happy decorating!

I’ve been in search of something similar to some artwork found in a recent IG pic of yours. They look like floral pencil drawings, and they’re gorgeous. Can you give me any info about those?
