New House Decor Inspiration

Links + Loves (big news for our family!)

Curious about anything you see above? The same images can be found on my Pinterest board w/ links to sources.

When it comes to home decor, I’m quick to say that it’s not my favorite thing to do. My mom and sister are both really talented at arranging or decorating a room and they have both helped me a lot over the years of moving and setting up different houses.

What I can do, though, is try to glean what I can from a beautiful image I see on Pinterest and re-create it in my own house. The furniture and decorations may not be from the same retailer, but I can kind of match the vibe once I know what I’m going for.

But the hardest part of all of it is figuring out what I’m going for in a certain room.

For the new house, I’m trying to make it feel like you are stepping into a home that could easily fit in at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina. I have so many sweet memories of that place. Justin and I got married there, and we’ve had a few family vacations at a few different homes that we’ve rented over the years as well.

I think because my memories are so happy from my time there that I want to recreate that in my home.

I wouldn’t call the decoration style fully southern as there are some design choices that I don’t necessarily like for my home (like a very patterned chair like this!) but in general I like the cozy soft tones, wood elements, slightly oversized furniture, and greenery that I tend to see in homes at Palmetto Bluff.

I may not have gotten the full decorating ability from my Mom, but I did learn how to mix and match with pieces from a variety of stores to create what I am looking for. There are a lot of pieces of furniture, rugs, and artwork from my current home that I’m excited to reconfigure into the new place.

The kids will have a playroom on the second floor, just like they have in my current home, and I’m sort of at a loss for how to decorate that. I know it’ll help to get in and live there for a few weeks before I make any decisions. We decorated the previous playroom in a very child-like way, and while I think the boys enjoyed it when they were little, I’m already feeling like they have outgrown it. I’d like the playroom to be a comfortable place for them to play and be wild (aka no breakables!) but also be a place where Justin and I can spend time watching a movie after the kids go to bed. We’re considering not having a tv on the first floor in the family room, which would be quite different than our last place, so it would be nice to have a space that all members of the family feel comfortable in!

I’m feeling a mix of excitement and overwhelmedness about decorating the new place. I’m sure it will be a long process since I’m trying to make mindful decisions about pieces that best fit into the design–but I think that will be best in the long run instead of hastily setting it up just for the sake of setting it up.

P.S. Remember those Brooklinen sheets I took a chance on and loved? Maybe there is more design inspiration to be found on Social Media…

We used Modsy for our den. Easily our favorite room in house and we get tons of compliments. We are currently finishing our basement and may use it again. Though I’m also finding thoughts of ideas on Pinterest, as well.

I think you’re going in the right direction! The pictures look really good. I don’t think you need to pressure yourself to get it right quickly. You can add more to the rooms over time as your taste and style change. 🙂

So exciting!! Love the inspo pics!
Whatever current decor you decide not to use in your new home, I’m sure locals would love to take a gander! 🙂

I might be in the minority, but I think it’s kind of boring to get your house decorated right away. It might eliminate a lot of the stress, but I think it also eliminates a lot of the fun. Half of the fun of decorating is seeing the transformation over time. It’s so exciting to always have a piece of furniture I’m keeping my eye out for, or a room I’m working on. I say get your house functioning how you want and live in it for a while. You’ll know what you like when you see it. You might not see it right away, though. And that’s okay! Enjoy the process!

My favorite way to decorate play spaces is with art from books they love. I color copied illustrations from Narnia books for my firstborn’s nursery, stuck them in IKEA frames and hung them on the wall with ribbon.

Oh wow, I love the style of the photos you’ve posted! Decor isn’t my strong point either, I love looking at what other’s have done to their homes, but I struggle with it myself!

Your inspiration board is beautiful. You’ve done the hardest part that I’ve found many struggle with the most and that is to decide on a style/vibe you want for the home. My favorite part is shopping for the goods but also having a little patience in the process. Knowing when stores have sales helps to hold out for that piece you’ve been eyeing. If you need a buddy to shop with, sign me up!
