Much Loved Foundations

My favorite lipsticks, from sheer to intense

It’s about time that I break down some of my top foundations as of late! I love trying new products and I’ve shifted my foundation requirements quite a bit over the last 8 years! I used to be a full coverage, matte, flawless, last for eternity kind of foundation girl, but now I look for a more natural, radiant finish that doesn’t look too “flawless” on the skin.

Basically, I’m happy with a medium coverage, “your skin but better” type of finish for every day. I want it to last all day, but I certainly don’t need full coverage like I used to! I like having a good full coverage foundation in my vanity, though, for the occasional need.

I shared a bit about each foundation, my favorite application method, and more in the video!

Do you have a favorite, “holy grail” foundation?

p.s. You may enjoy this post about full coverage foundation, and this post showing how different application methods affect the foundation coverage

This was so helpful! Definitely love the focused video. It can be overwhelming hearing about a pile of various products. I’d love a series like this

I’ve been loving medium coverage foundations lately! I’m using and loving the IT Cosmetics CC cream but I still want to try the Nars Sheer Glow someday.

This is so good! I’ve been using the same BB cream for ages (like, more than ten years?) by a Korean brand so it’s good to see what’s good on the market these days! ❤️✨

Would love you to review drugstore foundations too !

Would you consider doing a headshot photo ready tutorial? I know some foundations with spf give a glare, you need to beef up eye color etc but a professional headshot tutorial would be awesome for all the boss moms.

Loved this video! I am shopping for foundation right now and am drowning in choices! I have dry skin and yellow undertones. It’s been hard to find a good foundation! Do I need a primer too? Do recs for primer too?

Love this focused format! I’ve heard most of these mentioned but I thought it was helpful to hear about how they differ in finish and coverage.

Is Arbonne no longer a favorite?

I adore the Giorgio Armani foundation but I’m really struggling to find the right shade. I’ve tried the 5.5 but that’s much too dark for me and the 4.5 is too light. I really don’t like having to buy two shades and mixing but it sounds like that’s my best option.

What color are you wearing on your nails? Thanks 🙂

Love the focused video highlighting a certain product! Question though, when I clicked on the link to look at the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation the colors have names like Salzburg and Gobi and Fiji, not the Light 4 shade that you talk about.

I just bought Physicians Formula Healthy Foundation with 20 spf. I’ve worn it for the week and really like it. I don’t feel like it’s super heavy coverage , I can still see my freckles somewhat which I like the more natural look. It is not settling into my newly earned wrinkles around my mouth and under my eyes and that’s a huge win! Price point it good and it’s easy enough to put on with a blender sponge.

In the summer I love Revision’s Intellishade. It’s a tinted moisturizer, but magically works for every skin color and has SPF.

Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation. Love love love. I cannot wear SPF due to breakouts and this has none. My coloring is similar to Kate’s and I wear shade Soft Beige. Plus it is $6!

Hey Kate! Love this video! I like that it was all one category & it answers those burning questions about several different brands of foundation. Just curious…which one are you wearing in the video? I hope you didn’t already say 😬

Is there any way you can review drug store foundations too? The 2 medium coverage foundations you recommended are out of my price point. I’m even willing to spend ~$30, but $50 is just a little much for me (and I’m guessing a lot of others as well).

Do you ever use a BB cream for that “your skin but better” finish. Or use it for that lightweight, even skin look. I do not know the difference between a light coverage foundation or BB cream.

Reply
Kate says · 05.03.19

A BB cream is going to offer more skin benefits than a simple foundation will, but both will likely provide light, natural looking coverage!

I am currently in love with Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet. I was searching for something that didn’t settle in the creases/wrinkles as well as a foundation that stayed in place. It’s a little pricey and unfortunately, there is not a brick and mortar local to purchase from but I am in love. I will try the NARS to see if it has the ‘stay’ factor.

All those foundations are great! I used to love urban decay all nighter but I found that it broke me out a lot. Now my favorite is the foundation by Arbonne! It is so good and all natural so it doesn’t clog any of my pores. I used to struggle with all natural foundations, because most of them contain some kind of oil, but this one doesn’t!

Hi Kate – I love this, it’s so helpful! The different shades for the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation are not numbered like you have stated. They have actual names like “Barbados” and “Yukon”. Can you please help with this? I think a couple of others have asked as well.

I use Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear and use Lancome dual finish pressed powder over the Ultra wear. My face is basically 90% oil and I have tried a ton of products all promising no oily face. Lancome is probably the best so far but I still have an oily face without hours and at times looks blotchy at times. What foundation would you recommend?
