Apple “Cookies”, a fun, messy snack for kids

Quick Hair Tip: How to Apply and Layer Hair Products

If the boys and I are stuck home for any reason during the day, I usually like to come up with of some kind of craft or baking activity to keep us occupied!

On this particular day it was too cold to play outside so I set up a little “apple cookie” making station and they each got to make their own snack!

It took about 1 second for each boy to dip their fingers directly into the peanut butter, but I anticipated this project to be really messy so I came prepared.

We have Pampers Pure Aqua Wipes all over the house and the car. Other than using them for Emily during diaper changes, I like to have them on hand for wiping messy hands or faces for myself or my older kids. They are 99% water and made of very soft cotton material so I feel comfortable using them to clean up everyday messes!

The snack making project was a hit with the boys! I gave them each 3 slices of apples with the seeds removed, helped them spread peanut butter on top and then they chose their own toppings of M&M’s, mini chocolate peanut butter cups, yogurt raisins, or chocolate chunks.

They each seemed to enjoy eating the toppings by themselves more than decorating their apple “cookies”, but I can’t really blame them!

The boys are 5 and nearly 4 and it’s been so rewarding to watch them grow up as close brothers. They play so well together and enjoy working on projects or activities together too.

They are so cute….I like how Luke seems to have some sort of toy on his plate along with his apple cookies. Apples with peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks lately. Might have to do another similar activity the next couple of days……gonna be cold !!

I love this idea! It’s a healthy way to have a little treat. I can see why the kids like preparing the “cookies” too! So cute. 🙂

Apples are sugar (19 grams) (fructose is still sugar); creamy peanut butter typically has 3-6 grams of sugar per serving of 2 Tablespoons (those little cups probably had 4 Tablespoons of peanut butter at least, so there’s 12-24 grams of sugar); and then the candy toppings are, of course, densely packed sugar cubes. It’s a cute-as-a-button, fun dessert but not a healthy snack just because an apple is mentioned. This is definitely closer to “cookie” on the treat spectrum. My littles would love this every blue moon Friday but certainly not more often than that. 😉

Fun idea! We are stuck inside with negative temps today so I think we’ll try this. Also…YES to all the wipes! My last daughter is FINALLY potty trained!!! No more buying diapers, but I definitely still buy wipes in bulk! lol

I don’t buy things I intend to throw away, so I’ll stick with my reusables. Cute idea for a dessert!

Ugh. I feel like everything you post these days is one big AD. Liked it better in your early, pre-kid days when everything wasn’t just you monetizing everything.

Cute, fun, tasty, and – most importantly – eats up 20 minutes or more which is a must for this Mama in the middle of a huge snow day streak!! Thanks for sharing, Kate!
