Our Favorite Ways to use the Echo Show

3 Tips for Hosting a Party

This post was sponsored by Amazon.

If you caught my first blog post you would know that we’ve added the Amazon Echo Show to our kitchen and we love it. I use it so much more than I initially thought I would, and it helps us streamline our busy days. I’m actually getting so used to asking Alexa to do things that I wish I could automate *everything* that goes on in the kitchen.

“Alexa, cook dinner. And make it snappy.”

A girl can dream, can’t she? But since she has over 50,000 skills, I think we’ve just scratched the surface of how much the Amazon Echo Show can do for us, both as a helpful assistant to our days and also as entertainment.

My favorite ways to use the Amazon Echo Show are to ask what the weather is for the day, add to my lists, and check in on the kids when they are playing upstairs through the Nest camera. I didn’t know that you can have a few lists going at one time, so if you need to add to a grocery list but also a general to do list, you can do both!

Justin usually empties the dishwasher first thing in the morning and asks Alexa to give him his morning briefing. This is a customizable feature that gives you a little snapshot of news, sports, or any other topic you may be interested in hearing about. It’s a way to get up to speed on what is happening in the world. He also uses it to play music when he’s cooking breakfast for the kids, and I have to tell you the sound quality is pretty incredible. We can really crank it up and have a dance party at night after dinner, which is a pretty regular event in our house!

The Amazon Echo Show connects to our doorbell camera, a playroom camera, and a few of our light bulbs, so it also assists us in those aspects as well. There are so many other features and skills that the device provides as well, we’ve become quite used to checking in to see if Alexa can do something before we try to do it ourselves.

The Echo Show sounds so convenient for the whole family! I’m glad it’s helped your family in many ways. And also – the last picture is the absolute cutest, aww! 🙂 ❤️

Hi! What do you use the Echo for versus what do you use the Google hub for?

Just kidding…I thought your other post was about the Google device but both posts were about Amazon. Sorry! I can’t keep all these new devices straight anymore 😛

Girl…. three sponsored posts in a row? This is getting excessive.

My thoughts exactly! I’ve always loved this blog so much, but it is increasingly becoming nothing but advertisements. We all like free stuff, but come on…

Kate, don’t let these negative people with negative replies spoil your day at all. Don’t they realize that this is a very busy time of year for everyone. Your sponsored post are actually very informative. Shame on them!! Have a blessed day!

Hi Sherry! I’m assuming my post is the one to which you’re referring. I do actually understand it’s a busy time of year for everyone. I’m not sure what that has to do with posting sponsored content, but I’ll move along. My point is, as a reader since 2011, I hate coming to the blog every day and feeling like I’m being thrown disingenuous content. People always respond with “If you don’t like it, don’t read it!” And, I don’t! But I used to really love this blog and I’m finding myself not reading more often than I am because of the amount of sponsored content. I still come back, follow, and support the content I feel is authentic but my point was — what happened to it? I’m just not seeing it as much.

So no need to cast shame on me! Merry Christmas!

This is from a post of yours in 2013:

“3. Consider if there is an element of truth to the comment. Of course, this will depend on the comment.
If someone writes, “you’re dumb and I hate you”. Just move on.
But if someone writes, “ugggg. I’m so sick of the same hair tutorial over and over. Boring!” instead of writing a hasty sarcastic response, it’s more productive to look at the comment for what it is. Is there truth to it, even a fraction of truth? In that sample comment, there is. A lot of my tutorials look similar, and I need to be pushed out of my comfort zone every once in awhile.”

All I’m saying is there is, at least from what I’ve been able to gather, most negative comments (that aren’t vile and nasty attacks) share the common denominator of vocalizing too much sponsored content. So maybe there’s the tiniest bit of truth to what we’re saying?

I agree! Great way to convey what I’m thinking, at least. I feel the “heart” of the blog has been lost to ads. I used to really enjoy this blog, but haven’t for quite a while. I check it occasionally to see if it’s changed back to its original wholesomeness, but I’ve been disappointed. It’s become a constant “sell” job, sadly.

Thank you for this! It may be sponsored content, but we have been considering upgrading our Echo Dot and I love to hear how other people engage with these new devices. Your personal spin on these things is so helpful!

Hi! I’m considering getting the Echo Show so I can drop in with a nest cam, but I’m wondering, do you use a baby monitor or does this suffice as your need for it? I’m expecting baby #3 and trying to find a good solution!
