My Favorite Place to Save on Clothing

Summertime Loungewear

I first discovered thredUP a few years ago and since that time it became one of those websites I checked regularly to see what was available. It’s kind of exciting to click through and see what new arrivals they have! The prices are just so good it’s hard to pass up when you find something you are looking for, or frankly even something you may not know you were looking for! thredUP is the largest online consignment and thrift store where you can find items for up to 90% off retail.

This is especially perfect for me right now because I can find items that are from brands I know and trust, and that I feel comfortable in with my postpartum body. There are also a lot of great maternity options on thredUP as well. Basically, they have something for just about everyone.

There are over 35 thousand brands on thredUP, and if I’m totally honest I didn’t’ even know that many brands existed in the world. Imagine a mall with 35,000 stores, but each of those stores has their items available in great condition for a fraction of the price. I’d totally shop at that mall. And if consignment or thrift stores make you twitchy (I always picture disorganized warehouses that could take hours to go through), don’t write off thredUP without looking first. You can search by brand, like Vince, Kate Spade or GAP, or simply an item description. There is a designer section as well if you’d like to narrow your search to a particular range of items.

I recently found a bunch of great items, mixing in casual pieces with more dressy options, and my grand total cost roughly the same as one originally priced top from the order. Yes, the pink top by Rebecca Taylor was originally $225.00 and my entire order from thredUp was right at about $300.00.

That’s crazy.

I recently picked up a few items summer for myself, and a few things for Emily too! Emily’s Ralph Lauren navy blue dress was originally $55.00 but I bought it at $13.99. I think she’s pretty pleased with it!

I found a few tops from some of my favorite brands, like Vince and Joie, that I absolutely love.

This cold shoulder top by Velvet by Graham and Spencer was only $25.99, but the estimated retail price was $89.99! It was BRAND new with the tags still attached and is probably my favorite item from my order!

I also found a Joie blouse that I love and really think could work all year long. I love Joie clothing but sometimes their prices are seriously steep, so finding this blouse for only $29.99 when retail was $158.00 on thredUP was a huge win.

I added a few nursing friendly dresses to my wardrobe this spring and needed a layering option for chillier evenings. I found a striped button up as well as a chambray button up that can both be worn over my dresses, or even just a tank top, as an outer layer. The chambray top I’m wearing in the photo was only $13.99, down from it’s originally estimated price of $40.00!

If you want to give thredUP a try, they are offering the first 100 Small Things readers an extra 25% off their first order! Click here to start shopping and enter the code SMALLTHINGS at checkout (Applies to new US customers only, items priced under $150, excludes Goody Box orders).

I’ve never used thredUP personally but I’ve heard so many good things about it! I love that you can find branded items for a huge discount. 🙂

What an amazing find with the Rebecca Taylor top! I’ve hear of thredUP but never used it, or rather haven’t shopped there till now haha. I hope they have some pieces from a few seasons ago that I always wanted and never pulled the trigger on.
Have a wonderful day! xAllie

I love that you have partnered with Thred Up. I have used them for several years and always have good service. I love that they have clothes for children as well and hopefully they will add it for men soon too. Please keep featuring this resource. Hopefully the days of fast fashion will begin to subside and more and more buyers will appreciate that great items can come from Thred Up and other resource venues online and from consignment and thrift stores.

Has anyone sold anything on thredUP? I have some nicer (mostly Kate Spade) bags that I’d like to send in, and I’m just wondering what people’s experience has been on that end. Thanks!

Don’t do it. I have sent in items new with tags from the current season and have had them denied (but I’d have to pay to get them back). Your best best would be Poshmark or a local consignment store.

I have sent in a big bag of things for their consideration. I was surprised by the things they didn’t take but they can be sent back to you. They took a couple small coach bags and coach boots and a couple other things and I got $170 in credit. I was happy with that.

Thank you so much for recommending a few different brands! I’ve looked at ThredUp before but always get so overwhelmed with not recognizing the brands. Any other tips for when you run across something that looks cute but you aren’t sure of the brand (and thus quality)?

I usually just search by brand when I’m looking for something. Otherwise, if I find something that is from a brand I don’t know, I’ll search for that brand through google to look for reviews somewhere else!

I have used thredup A LOT. Easy to return items that don’t fit or are not the quality I wanted. The ability to search by brand or narrow the filter by range of brands makes it easier. Sometimes it takes a while but I have found awesome deals. Cole Haan sneakers, dresses, golf clothes, banana republic jeans, shirts, etc.

I love Thred Up for items I already have but I want to replace because it’s worn out or a get a different color or size. And its really FUN when you find something you were eyeing in the store at full price and now score it for way less!!
