Casual Coffee Date

Holiday Gift Guide for Anyone

At about week 7 of this third pregnancy I developed a strong coffee aversion. Like, the thought of drinking it was instantly nauseating. I gave it up practically cold turkey. That coupled with complete and utter exhaustion for those first several weeks meant I was a zombie. I had never been that tired in my LIFE.

Now that I’m into my second trimester, I’ve added iced coffee drinks into my routine in the morning. Hot coffee still sounds repulsive, but since the temperatures have turned colder I’ve ventured into Chai tea and lattes. Justin almost never drinks coffee but when he’s sick he likes to get a “no water chai” from Starbucks. I tried a sip of his recently and was pleasantly surprised that it tasted good!

We dropped the kids off at school the other day and the popped down to a local coffee shop so I could pick up a chai latte for myself. This place has the best chai, much better than Starbucks in my opinion!

We didn’t stay too long, but it was nice to have a little time together that morning after dropping off the kids but before we both secluded ourselves in our home offices!

On a completely separate note, I’m in an “in-between” stage with my purse right now. I rarely carry a full diaper bag around, though it’s always in the car if I’m out with the boys. The most I need on me, in terms of what the boys may need, are wipes, tissues and a diaper for Luke. I have a pretty good amount of small to medium size crossbody bags but I needed something a little bit larger that didn’t feel like a big tote that was heavy to lug around.

My sister mentioned this bag to me and I was immediately smitten. I’ve loved my Madewell Transport Crossbody for months and months (and it only gets better with age) so I knew this would be a perfect alternative. I ordered it online at Nordstrom because their shipping is so fast!

As it turns out, it is the BEST size. It feels like a purse, gives me room for extra things if I need it, but isn’t too large to carry. I love the large outer pocket too. I usually slip my phone into it whenever I carry it into a store.

I’ve also been living in these Sam Edelman Penny boots since the day I picked them up. I found them to run narrow in the foot so I ended up ordering “wide,” which I never have to do – just keep that in mind if you order these! I used the Buy Online Pick Up In Store feature that Nordstrom offers on their website. I do almost all my shopping online these days, so being able to browse the site in the comfort of my robe and slippers, and then just pick up the items when they are ready is so convenient.

My sweatshirt is also from Nordstrom and is not maternity. It’s lightweight and has a slight boat neck collar. It’s one of those things that I can re-wear a few times before I need to wash it, so I basically live in this thing! I love that the tie makes it feel slightly more put together than just a simple sweatshirt.

I can’t wrap up this post without tell you about the amazing suede jacket I got from Nordstrom as well. I wore it here and received so many questions about it! It’s the PERFECT jacket to wear over dresses, a basic tee, or a silky camisole. Basically, anytime you think you want to grab a cardigan for an extra layer of warmth over your outfit, think of this jacket instead. I included it, as well as similar options, in the “Shop the Post” graphic below! Just click on the picture!

I noticed in your instastory you had an organizer in your bag. Could you share which one? It seemed to fit the Madewell tote perfectly.

YES!!! my babe is now 1.5 yrs old and I think I can ditch the big bulky diaper bag for a smaller option. The organizer looked so great to just pop into the bag! We need more details on that tote organizer!!!!

Super cute! I generally look like a troll when I’m out grabbing coffee, so I’m very impressed πŸ™‚

I recently have been making my own chai lattes at home and they’re awesome! 2 tea bags instead of 1, plus a milk frother I got for $40 on Amazon. A few drops of Stevia and I’m basically in heaven every morning!

Kate, does the tote work if you use the smaller straps over your shoulder?

Glad you’re feeling less tired! I always prefer coffee from places other than Starbucks – they add a lot of sugar and it’s usually better if you can have something locally made. There’s a guy in our town that makes a “Yogic Chai” mix that all the cafes use. It’s less sweet, more spicy, but it gives you that warm kick without as much caffeine. You look great!

I have those boots in a black leather/suede combo and I adore them! You can throw them on with pretty much anything. I got them for a steal at Nordstrom Rack and I’ve seen them there in different colors…I’ve been tempted! Sam Edelman shoes are such nice quality πŸ‘πŸΌ

Love the jacket on you!

I feel you on the coffee!! I’ve been an avid hot black tea drinker since high school and by week 6 of this pregnancy I couldn’t even consider looking at my kettle and had to put it away in a cabinet! At week 22, I’m starting to be able to drink flavored black teas occasionally, but my usual strong stuff is still out. Mind boggling and life changing for sure!
