A Winter Glow Makeup Look

next
Warm & Cozy for Winter

Sometimes it’s just time for a glowy berry lip makeup look. Winter does that to me. And as much as I love a classic red lip, I LOVE wearing a berry colored shade in the winter as well. It’s a nice alternative and it’s much easier to find one that works with your skin tone!

I found a bunch of great products at Ulta, including two new makeup applicators that I was excited to put to the test in this tutorial. The first is this silicone makeup applicator that I was very curious about. I typically use a sponge like this but I loved that this silicone one does not absorb any makeup! I also grabbed a set of tiny egg shaped makeup sponges for applying and blending concealer. My other sponge was a little large so I liked how small these ones were!

The rest of the products I used were some of my favorites. My top 3 items of the collection are the Stila Smudge Stick in Damsel, the Tartelette in Bloom palette, and Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. I know these products will deliver and last all day.

Let’s walk through the steps that I took to get this look!

First, I primed my skin with Bare Minerals Prime Time. I love this primer because it feels like silk on my skin and helps my makeup to stay put!

Next I applied eyelid primer and then a shimmery cream shade from the Tartelette in Bloom palette called Funny Girl. In my crease I added a mix of Jetsetter and Rocker from the same palette.

You may notice some eyeshadow fall out on my cheekbone. This is why I do my eyes first! I can just grab a makeup removal cloth and wipe away the mess!

For eyeliner, I applied a medium thick line of Stila Smudge Stick in Damsel, then immediately grabbed a smudge brush to smudge the line in toward my corner and out past the edge of my lid into a very soft cat eye shape.

After a few swipes of Benefit Roller Lash mascara, I applied Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage foundation using the Siligo makeup sponge applicator. I found that the product goes on easily and I like how well it blends in!

Next I added a seriously awesome under eye concealer by Urban Decay called All Nighter. This will not MOVE once you put it on! I used the small sponge applicators and found them perfect for getting the concealer applied and blended in!

I filled my brows with Benefit’s Goof Proof brow pencil. This is slightly angled which makes it so easy to use!

With the same smudge brush I used for my eyeliner on the upper lash line, I smudged a bit of the eyeliner onto my lower lash line and added a few coats of mascara.

Finally, for the GLOW part of this look, I used a pretty highlight shade from a Smashbox palette called Blow a Fuse Pearl. It adds nice lightness and highlight to my cheekbones!

Finally I finished with a bit of blush and a pretty lipcolor by Smashbox called Fig. I’ve found that the Smashbox Be Legendary lipsticks last SO LONG! I’d highly recommend if you like a moisturizing, long-wearing lipstick.

The final look felt perfectly holiday with the berry lip and the highlighted cheekbones!

You can find all these products, and so much more, at Ulta. I love that you can stop in to one store and find a huge range of drugstore brands as well as high end makeup!

Beautiful! Your lashes are amazing! Is that really just mascara….and did you use an eyelash curler first? When I first saw your picture I thought surely they were falsies! 😃. These little sponges look like great stocking stuffers!

I bought the Stila Smudge stick in Damsel last week, and I love it, but unfortunately I used it twice and wasn’t able to get it to twist up. I exchanged it at Sephora, but the new one did the exact same thing. I did some research and found that a lot of people are having the same problem…they can get 1-2 uses out of it and that’s it. I was just wondering if you’ve had this problem? And if you have any tricks for getting it to twist up?

Really?! I’ve never had that problem and that is super frustrating!

I always love your posts. This is an especially beautiful lip color for this time of year. I would love to see a post reviewing Mineral Fusion makeup. I’ve been working on finding makeup with natural ingredients & a good rating on the environmental working group website. Mineral Fusion products have great reviews & a good rating by ewg, but I’d love to hear your take on them.

Can you do a highlighter tutorial? I have a cream one and a powder one and I don’t know how to use it to it’s best potential…plus I don’t want to look like a 6 year old raided her mom’s makeup when I’m, you know, 35. And yes, my mom DOES have a picture of me having raided her makeup, thanks for asking;)

When I click on your link for the lipstick it doesn’t bring me to the fig color. It is primrose mauve – does this mean they are out of it? I really love the color on you and wanted to try it.

Kate says · 11.25.17

I’m not sure, you could call and ask?

You can select the color “Fig” from those colored dots below the picture of the lipstick. “Fig” is the 5th one on the top row.
