The Snack Packer

next
The classics

I promise that if you were to ask Justin what I always make sure to have with me on road trips or flights, he would tell you that I always pack snacks.

From as long as I can remember, I’ve found comfort in having a little snack with me whenever I’m getting into a situation where I’m not sure what the food situation is going to be like. I get jittery when I drink coffee on an empty stomach, and would always rather snack on a granola bar instead of picking up fast food if I were suddenly hit with hunger.

Naturally, this tendency only became more necessary with kids. We are always on the go, and I always have snacks with me! Honestly, it’s not unusual for me to throw a few snacks in my purse when I go out with the boys these days. We are pretty much beyond the need of carrying a diaper bag everywhere, so as long as I have the very basics with me I feel good.

The boys have been eating GoGo squeeZ® applesauce pouches for years. I buy them in bulk, and we’ve tried a few of the different flavors they offer (like AppleCinnamon and AppleStrawberry); yet the classic AppleApple flavor is the most preferred!

We spent about 17 days in Wisconsin in July, celebrating the 4th of July and my sister’s wedding. It was jam-packed with lots of fun activities, and Justin and I really enjoyed letting the boys run wild around my parent’s lake house neighborhood. I have fond memories from summertime in Wisconsin, and I love that the boys were able to spend so much consecutive time here!

Justin and I took them over to a nearby park to play a few times, and we had a quick little snack while we were there.

My kids are picky, and I haven’t done the best job about making them try new things. When we are out, and I know they are hungry after a morning of playing, I want to make sure they are snacking on something that is good for them and that I know they will eat! There’s no artificial anything in GoGo squeeZ® applesauce and it’s made with 100% fruit. You can find them almost anywhere that you buy groceries!

And if these aren’t the faces of “h-angry” children, I don’t know what are:

I have to try squeeze pouches with my 2 year old, especially with a newborn in tow, too!

For my daughter, a favorite healthy snack is yogurt when we’re at home, and a granola bar when we’re on the go. For me, fresh fruit or veggies are best…I’ve been hooked on cutting up watermelon or pineapple lately, and baby carrots are just so easy to take along!

Great contest! I hope I get some ideas from other posters!

Kate this statement really resonated with me – “My kids are picky, and I haven’t done the best job about making them try new things” I feel exactly the same! My three year old is super picky and I definitely feel it’s entirely my fault. That being said – she does eat these Go-Go Squeeze applesauce pouches too!

i make a homemade snack mix using corn cereal, wheat cereal, rice cereal, bugles, cheddar rockets from trader joe’s and honey roasted peanuts, topped with a buttery seasoning. the kids love it, i know exactly what went in, and it is something we can make together using a microwave. i love to make little trail mix (gorp) blends too with dried fruits, nuts, crackers, cereals, etc. since my daughter had braces put on, we’ve had to be careful about hard, really crunchy snacks. [she picks out the peanuts and gives them to her dad and brother]

We carry similar pouches (fruit and veggie with a few healthy grains and yogurt mixed in some,) everywhere. And I mean everywhere. My kids are 4, 3, and 1, and I don’t know how I’d make it a week without dozens of pouches. Aldi has them the cheapest. We also use cheese sticks and nuts for the older 2.
