Laid Back Waves Tutorial

Nail Colors: finger + toe combinations

It may feel repetitive to be sharing yet ANOTHER curling tutorial, but I’ve received so many requests that I had to! You can find all my other curling tutorials here, and watch this newest one below!

I’m using a 1.5 inch Babyliss curling iron on the highest heat setting. I washed my hair with Redken Beach Envy Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. After towel drying, I applied Beach Envy Volume Wave Aid (I LOVE that this is salt-free). Then, at my root area, I applied Aquage Uplifting Foam. I blew it dry (and utilized this tip to soften my face frame area) and then started curling!

My top can be found here, and my necklace is from Elisabeth Ashlie. My lipstick is Bite Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Meringue

You’re not doing 2 layers of curls anymore? Previously I remember you separating out the crown area. Does this way just make an even softer curl? Thanks for these tutorials- they’re extremely helpful.

On the reviews on the Ulta website, the beach envy volume conditioner got some reviews for not detangling very well and big being moisturizing at all. How did you like it?

I appreciate the new hair tutorial, and I would love to see more every month. I really think that’s where your blog shines!

However, I’m not a huge fan of the voice over videos. Your original tutorial videos were much easier to follow because you could point something out as you were saying it. It also made it feel more like two girlfriends hanging out and getting ready. Does that make sense?

I am also wondering about the length of your layers. My hair is just below my shoulders but I think my layers are not quite right. Plus I have bangs.

I agree with Devon – I’ve been watching your videos since before you got pregnant with your first and I miss the old format. I can see that this is probably less work for you – ie. do your hair and then just do the voice over instead of having to redo if you mess up talking while styling… BUT the old way was friendlier – I miss seeing you talk and style! I think your approachability and likeableness is a big part of your brand – so I’d consider that when thinking about the new format which has you solemnly styling… I know!! Completely unsolicited feedback! lol

You are my go-to girl for hair tutorials! I just love ya!
I have probably 4xs more hair then you do and it’s much longer, mid back. Your total head of hair is just my bottom layer. Any tricks to get this to work for thick long hair?

Wait! Salt is bad?? I purposely put salt into a “beach spray” I made from a Pinterest recipe thinking it was natural and would help with that beach texture. Is it too drying then? Do I not want to be putting salt in my hair??

I had a similar experience with using the babyliss pro curling iron. I used to curl with a curling wand, not as often, but it did not make my hair smell. Now that i’m Curling my hair more often with the babyliss pro, I find that my hair has that a sulfur smell to it, even after I shampoo and condition. Wondering it’s it’s a sign that my hair is fried. If so, do you, Kate, has any recommendations to get rid of that smell?

Kate! I love your hair styles! So you have a curling iron that is cheaper than the one above that would work the same? Trying to go easy on the budget! My hair is flat and straight and I’m trying to do what I can without breaking the bank! Thank you!!

Kate how does your hair look so smooth and comb so easily? I’m trying to get back in to blow drying and curling my hair, but I find it looks dry and frizzy. I tried using the Aquage for root lift, but what other product should I try?
