Easy to Wear Swimsuits (mom-friendly!)

one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight

I don’t know about you, but my days of laying in the sun are long gone. Not only is that impossible with two little boys, but I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to when I was younger. I’d MUCH rather sit in the shade versus cooking in the sun no matter how much SPF I’m wearing.

So my bathing suits have to be kid/play friendly and also something I feel comfortable in. I love a one piece and am so happy to see that there are so many cute options out there now. I also love a high neck since I’m bending over picking up kids, and actively playing with them!

I bought this one last year at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and really love it. The pattern is flattering and it feels great on. I also found a scalloped trim one that I really love too!

But if you remember, I discovered rash guards last summer as well, and pretty much wore mine nonstop anytime I was in the pool, with or without the kids. It is SO much easier than slathering on sunscreen over and over again, and it didn’t feel hot like I thought it would. I think I’m going to look for a nicer one this year as the one I got on Amazon was a bit cheap and doesn’t coordinate well with my other swimsuits.

Honestly, if this one had long sleeves, I’d be all OVER that suit. This one has long sleeves, but the back is open so I’d just need to make sure I applied sunscreen to that area!

Are you going on a trip this spring? I have a girls trip planned with my mom and sister next month as a pre-wedding get-a-way for Lauren. Her wedding isn’t until July, but we wanted to make sure we got it in before it got too busy!

More clothes I’m loving lately here and here! Such a cute coverup

These are cute suits, but since having kids, I find I need a 2-piece (tankini!) because there is no time for wrestling out of a 1-piece when, um, nature calls. My usual go to is a skirted bottom and supportive tankini top from Athleta- I love that their tops are bra-cup sized and styled more for action (read: chasing kids) and not just for looking pretty poolside. We just got snow here though, so wearing any kind of swimwear seems so far away!

Number 8 is quite cute! I haven’t worn my bikini in years and I’m so glad one-pieces are making a comeback!

I really recommend Lands’ End rash guards and they have great swimwear too.

Agree! I wore their rash guards all last summer in the Texas sun and it made all of the difference.

I think one-pieces are so cute, but I just can’t wear them! Between having a very short torso and a larger than average chest, I’ve never found one that fits well. And I think there’s nothing worse than having to take off a wet one-piece to go to the bathroom, haha! I do, however love the Kortni Jeane suits – there are a variety of top and bottom options in great mix and match colors/patterns, and they give great coverage! Not to mention I can get different sized tops and bottoms, which is so nice!

Michelle, I’m right there with you. Large chest but I have a super long torso from under my bust to hips so I have to have adjustable straps (super short from under my bust to my shoulders) and need support. I’m going to check out that brand you mentioned. I’ve always bought Lands’ End but it’s good to branch out. I also love Lime Ricki because you buy the tops and bottoms separately.

I have a trip planned with my husband for the end of the month and I had decided not to get a new swimsuit, but you might have changed my mind! 🙂 I also love a one piece and am so glad they have more cute options now.

OH, these are all so very cute!!!

I can’t wear any halter necklines due to, well, how God made me. Each year I think I can handle it, buy one, wear it in my house, and return it the next day. My neck can’t handle it. If you find any modest, cute suits that aren’t halter (even Athleta has stopped carrying good non-halter neck suits), please post those. I love x-back suits. They stay on without having to mess with falling straps and are usually modest. But, hard to find! Help a sista out.

Gosh, that scallop one is adorable! There is no way. I would literally topple forward from the pressure. Somebody please make supportive, modest, cute swimsuits!!!

I’m a big fan of Athleta rash guards. I have the long sleeve but they make tanks and short sleeves as well. The price is really reasonable for the quality that you get. Between having red hair and two small children, rash guards have been a lifesaver!

To those who are hesitant about one-pieces because of the bathroom issue…just slide the bottom over to one side or the other and go. That way you don’t have to take it off and try to get that wet baby back up and in place!

I still wear two pieces, but they have to be comfortable and stay put, as I am constantly chasing my kids around as well.

Check out athleta’s cover-ups. They are so cute!! My friend had one and the beach and she loved it. If I weren’t pregnant I’d be buying two for this year!

Prana is a great brand for cute one-piece swimsuits. I got a rashguard from them last year that love. The zipper makes it easy to get on and off, and it’s got pretty details.

Love #1! Planning on spending lots of time up at the pool this summer with my little one, and I didn’t think about having a high neck. Such a good point!

I’ve admired the Target suit for some time. On the model the bottom looks a bit “cheeky”. Would you say it has a full bottom? Thank you!

Okay so I saw this adorable one piece and immediately thought of you because you mentioned liking long sleeves. https://www.piperandscoot.com/collections/swim/products/swim-seea-hermosa-surf-suit-in-nopal

If I wasn’t 6 months pregnant I would buy it myself. 🙂

Have you checked out Lands End? Their suits are AMAZING! They last a long time and most of their patterns mix and match super easy. The fabric wears well and the fit is good for those that are active. I spend a great deal of time in a pool from May to October (Gotta love the Georgia weather) with kids and love my Lands End. They are pricey but if I get more than 2 summers out of them I call that a win. Right now I have a few pieces that are on year 4 or 5! I love that their tankinis stay put! no riding up in the top and they have several bottom options. I love the swim short. So comfortable. Their customer service is great and you can order online and return to your local Sears!

I think I’m going to try a suit with a high neck and long sleeves this year, because sunscreen always makes my skin break out like crazy and I’m tired of dealing with it on day 3/4 – 8 of our vacation EVERY year. Hopefully that will prevent it and I won’t have to worry about sunscreen. J Crew sells some cute options!

I have a long torso, and long torso size suits seem to have disappeared in the past decade or so, but I love tankinis. I can get ones that have a longer top so it covers like a one-piece. I put together the cutest suit last summer off the racks of the Dillard’s outlet in my city for mere pennies! And it has a well concealed built in bra. My triple-D’s are happy about that. I’m excited to wear it on our anniversary trip to Mexico next month!

I see some other recommendations for them in the comments, but I have to put in another good word for Athleta’s rash guards! I bought one of their long sleeve, hooded ones last year and happily lived in it all summer. I’ll be buying another one this year for sure. It feels really lightweight and cool. The hood part is amazing for my super fair skin (keeps away the dreaded scalp/part burn!).
