Warm and Toasty with Pixi

I’m making an effort to find more amazing drugstore cosmetics that I love this year! I have a few tried and true products that I’ve mentioned over the years, but with new makeup/beauty releases coming almost every few weeks, there’s always something new to try!

Pixi is a brand sold at Target ( so not technically a drugstore but close enough! ) that I’ve been pretty darn pleased with lately. I love the eyebrow pencils as eyeliner, and their bottom lash mascara makes my lower lashes look incredible!

I recently received a press kit of a handful of new launches with Pixi so I picked out some of the most enticing things and did my makeup with them the other day! Most of the products impressed me, but 2 things were immediately disappointing.

Let me take you through them!

The shades, in general, are much warmer than I ever go for with makeup. But I did find a few things that worked that I’m really pleased with. The happiest moment was doing my eyeshadow. Those shadows rival some of the high end shadow’s I’ve used in the past. They were pigmented, went on like a dream, and lasted all day (I did use eyelid primer (Mac Paint Pot in Soft Ochre). From the palette, I applied the very top left shade all over, third row far right on top of that, and then bottom row middle in the crease. It was a perfectly shimmery chocolate eye that I loved. It could very easily be smoked out for an even darker look, but there aren’t a lot of options for lighter looks.

The blush was stunning. Just STUNNING! And the highlighter reminded me of a Hourglass strobing powder I tried last year. I’m not big on shimmery highlighter, but if you are I’d recommend trying this one! I used the contour kit just for a contour shade (did not use the highlighter options from this kit) and chose the bottom row middle color. It was SO pigmented that the simple act of pressing the brush into the product, and then onto my face, left a strong line. I went into recovery mode immediately, trying to blend away the line. The colors are pretty, but it’s almost TOO easy to use and ends up being a bit more work than usual.

Finally, the lip palette, while pretty, left me disappointed. They were so dry on my lips! And again, very dark colors. I don’t imagine getting a ton of use out of it, plus I’m not a huge lip palette girl. Just give it to me in a tube please!

So of the bunch, the eyeshadow palette is worth looking into! And the blush! The lip and contour palettes were a little “meh” and I could very easily never use them again and forget about them.

To clarify, this is not a sponsored post. Just my thoughts! I received the items for free, but had zero obligation to write about them.

More of my favorite drugstore products here and here!

I love all of your beauty posts, especially the drugstore ones because they are affordable! I was actually recommended the Pixi lip tint just yesterday…might be different than the lip palette. Now I want to try their blush!! 🙂

Love this post – I’ve been looking for a new bottom lash mascara for a while now, and didn’t know Pixi made one! I currently use Clinique’s and am not a fan of how it gets stringy and clumpy when I take it off my bottom lashes at the end of the day. Pixi’s applicator brush also looks a lot easier to use. Very excited to try!

OH, that blush color is so so pretty! It looks like a large pan too. I’ve recently branched out to Beauty Counter in hopes of being kinder to my skin BUT I still always go back to my tarte blushes. They just last so stinkin’ long (on my face and in the pan)!

I love hearing your opinions on products and the whys behind them.

Those palettes look gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to try Pixi skincare but their makeup line looks just as good. I wish Pixi was carried in my drugstore here in Canada!

Where are you located? I’m in Ottawa and just recently spotted a small display of Pixi products at Shoppers Drug Mart! I don’t know if they’ll get the full line but it was exciting to see some of the products!

I’ve tried to use Pixi’s eye pencils in various colors and something in them burned my eyes like FIRE, so I was scared to try anything else of theirs. But after reading this, I’m curious about their blush! Their glowy powder looks a little like my favorite Tarte blush! Thanks for the review!

So do you prefer the Pixi over the Clinque bottom lash mascara? Please let us know. I use the Clinique and love it.

Great review, I’ve often wondered about Pixie. I will definitely try it. Target is 2 minutes from my house. It’s dangerous :/ Also, I bought an e.l.f eyeliner brush and cream liner to apply and practice and it’s great! NO more pencils for me. Thanks for the info!

Ooh – I’ll definitely try the blush. I was at my Target in the northern Chi burbs and couldn’t believe my luck when I saw they had the new “Double Cleanse” by Caroline Hirons already. I thought it would take awhile to get to the States. I really like it. Anxious to hear your opinion of it Kate.

Hi, I love your blog. I live in the UK, make up is very expensive over here. I therefore use my drug store to supply my make up. I was wondering if you could trial some UK drug store brands?
Thanks Jen x
