New Makeup “tries”

If you follow on snapchat, you may have seen that I’ll receive mailings from brands to try new products! It’s a fun perk to the job for sure. And oftentimes I’ll go through and show you details about the products just on snapchat, but I’ll forget to mention it here on the blog!

So, instead of a full tutorial, I thought I’d just highlight some new products that I used and give you my take on them.

First up, I tried *Estee Lauder’s new Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup in shade Fresco. I’d describe it as a radiant/natural finish that is very buildable. You can wear a light amount and get decent coverage, but adding a bit more product to problem areas of your face will cover well there too. I did not like the applicator being attached to the tube. I’m a “put some on the back of my hand and use a foundation brush or beauty blender” girl, so being forced to use the small sponge wasn’t a high point for me. However, it’s great for travel-so there’s that. You can also just twist some product out onto the back of your hand too, and use whatever application method you prefer.

I also applied *Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Do No Wrong Matte. It’s perfect for this time of year. It’s feels nice on the lips, doesn’t dry out, and is very matte. It’s similar in color to my new favorite NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Bound, but a bit more pink.

On my eyes, I used Ashes to Ashes by NARS. It’s a nice wheat-grey shade that is a perfect “all across the lid” shadow.

And for my brows, I used Anastasia Brow Wiz in blonde. It’s much more precise than Hourglass Arch brow pencil, and a bit lighter/warmer. I bought it because I wanted to have an option of being really precise with my brows. My only note on this is that it helps to set your foundation near your eyebrows with a bit of powder, so the pencil doesn’t just slide on top of your skin. I don’t have that issue as much with Hourglass Arch!

Finally, I used the plum shade from the *NARS Unfiltered Cheek Palette (currently out of stock!). The color pay off from these blushes is crazy good. A similar shade, especially if you don’t want an entire palette would be Blushing Bride by Tarte!

I’m K8_smallthings on Snapchat if you want to follow the fun! It’s usually me sharing random, pointless stories or being on the bottom of a dog pile with my kids. That about sums it up. Enticing, huh?

*indicated I received item as a gift from the brand.

Love you on Snapchat and Periscope. You’re so fun! I love this type of post. It’s fun to see a quick snapshot of what you love and don’t love about products. Monthly favorites and dislike-it videos and posts are probably my favorite, because I can get so many honest reviews before checking out a product! So glad brands send you stuff, because you’re definetly one of the first ones I go to for an opinion!

I’ve always wanted to try the Anastasia Brow products but because they don’t sell it in my country, I’ve never been able to get them but also so many people say that they’re not worth the money. What do you think?

I love your blush in this picture. Could you do a tutorial on blush placement, perhaps by face shape? I put it on different ways (apples of my cheeks, swept from apples of my cheeks and up, etc.) and I never feel like it’s quite what I’m going for. Thanks for doing what you do!

You are amazing Kate – my husband saw me watching one of your snaps the other day and said to me who is that? I responded “oh its my friend Kate well actually I don’t know her really but if we lived in the same city I know we would be friends” haha I also have a son who will be 3 in March and a daughter who is 3 months so your snaps about your kids are so real I totally get it haha

I just picked up the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil recently and have been really liking it. I’m usually in a rush putting on my make-up in the morning and I find this one is fast and mostly foolproof. I love that lipstick on you, it looks so smooth and creamy.

Thanks for the recs, Kate! Random question: could you do a tutorial on cream blush? I’d love to try it, but I feel like I’d look like I was doing the grease paint football players use. Or perhaps you’ve already done one and could link to it for us (well, me, but maybe others would benefit, too). Thanks!
