Anna’s Curls

Isn’t Anna just beautiful? She’s a dear friend of mine and I recently spent some time with her in order to help her correct a curling issue she was having.

Her hair texture is smooth, silky, and shiny. Her curls tend to “fall” toward the bottoms of her hair and they all blend together into one large curl.

I watched her curl one piece of her hair so I could see what she was doing, and immediately I knew how to help! Watch the video below to see how to avoid one of the most common hair curling mistakes.

( I used the T3 curling iron with the 1.25 attachment )

My issue is curling my weak side so to say. I’m left handed, so curling my right side always looks different. Any help with how to hold the curling iron?

You own so many different curling irons and it makes me want them all! How do you decide which one to use, especially on your own hair? I just returned the Ghd. Didn’t think I needed a $200 curling iron. I have a hot tools, babyliss and a nume wand.

Really cool to see other hair types in tutorials. You’re blessed with some great hair, but it can be really frustrating to recreate your beautiful styles on less cooperative hair! Thanks!

This was so very helpful! I just love your blog. It’s so helpful to see you doing someone else’s hair. My hair is a lot like Anna’s (even falling in my face all.day.long) and I think these tips will help my curling skills.

Articulate & informative your videos are enjoyable to watch. My hair is thin & silky ~ thanks for a tutorial addressing those issues. I usually just flip and clip because it isn’t worth the effort and time spent when it just falls out in a few hours. Interested enough to try your technique. Any tips on growing out bobs/lobs?

This was such a great tutorial. I’m often curling my hair quickly before running out the door and don’t pay enough attention to the angle at which I’m holding the barrel – great tips. Thanks, Kate!

Kate, can you do a curling tutorial on someone that has thick, curly hair, but has the same problem? My curls fall to the bottom and also bunch together as well. This would be so helpful!

I have the same hair type as Anna. I am also someone who plays with their hair constantly so I’m not a huge fan of using products that will make my hair feel stiff or rough. Will this tutorial help me with the same issue if I don’t use the products?
