Renewing My Skin with Burt’s Bees

next
A little nursery spruce

bb-1This is the most recent photo I have of my “naked” face. In other words, no makeup (Except for my eyes). My skin has been clear and I’m generally quite happy with it as I’ve progressed through my twenties. I used to deal with fairly regular break outs, but those have since gone away. I do, though, have some minor gripes with the skin on my face. I feel like it’s tired (or maybe I’m just tired?) and rather dull. There isn’t that youthful glow anymore, you know what I mean? So I always reach for my blush and a highlighter after I apply my makeup to compensate for my rather dull skin. Also, there are a few specific areas that are new in the last year or so that are showing my age. And now is a good time to have a brief chat about aging. I’m not the kind of gal that is trying to fight growing older. It’s going to happen, and I’ll embrace and roll with the changes as they come. I think aging gracefully is so much prettier than taking extreme measures to cover up or physically change your face. That said, these are specific areas that wouldn’t top the list of “Things I Love About My Face”. bb2

Burt’s Bees new Renewal line is all about refining and hydrating your skin so it looks its best. Under eye cream excites me, so I’m really looking forward to diligently applying the Renewal Smoothing Eye Cream and looking to see the progress in a few weeks.

bb-3

The Renewal Firming Day Lotion is supposed to help restore the “glow”, and as my makeup lightens up in the warmer months, I’d love to have a glowing base to start with! Anyway, there are really positive claims about using this line for 4 weeks. 96% of women using the entire line saw improvements in the lines and wrinkles in their face. While that isn’t my biggest complaint for my skin right now, I’m never opposed to going to preventative route when it comes to skincare. Be sure to check back for my follow up post after using the line for a few weeks!

I’ve been having the same issue lately! In fact, I went to get a facial recently, and the esthetician mentioned my wrinkles on my forehead (at 26 that was a bit of a shocking realization) so I’ve been searching for a great line of products to bring back that youthful glow and firmness. While I’m sure she was also trying to simply sell me her products, I’ve noticed the wrinkles and dullness more recently than ever. I can’t wait to hear how you feel about this line of products!

I’m starting to notice wrinkles around the eyes as well. I love Burt’s Bees’ so I can’t wait to give this line a try!

Kate, just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Rodan and Fields? I think they have redefining lines like this burts bees line. Any reason you chose burts bees specifically? Just wondering as I’m trying to find something like this, too. I’ve heard a lot about Rodan and Fields (haven’t tried it yet) and actually haven’t heard about this burts bees renewal line. Want to make sure I’m investing in something worthwhile before buying! 🙂 Thanks!

Yes they do! I’ve often wondered about Kate’s thoughts on R+F. I’m about to start selling it. My mom sells it at the age of 69, she looks AMAZING. I have watched it transform her skin over the last 2 years.

The number one most important thing you can do for skin care and anti-aging is wear sunscreen daily!

I’m sixteen and I have forehead wrinkles starting. What can I do to prevent them coming so quickly? Is there anything? The rest of my face has a good youthful glow, but my forehead makes me look older and tired.

Gracie, I don’t know where you live but protect your face from the sun, hats , visors, sunglasses and sunblock- it pays off!

Hi Jillian,
I live in Scotland so we don’t have sun problems! But thank you for your advice. When we do get a bit of sun or when I’m abroad I’ll definitely do that 🙂

I am 36, working mother of one and I too have been struggling with aging gracefully and also noticing some places around my face that could use a little sprucing up. I used to use Dermologica and Ole Henrickson products and they worked great (the Ole Henrickson’s night gel really made a difference in terms of reducing fine lines and smoothing and brightening the skin). I have sensitive skin, olive tone. But, in an effort to save some money, I started trying drug store brands. I have been pleased with “Say Yes” to Blueberries under eye cream. I tried Cerave under eye cream but did not notice any changes. I currently use the “Simple” line foaming face wash, Cerave facial moisturizer with SPF and the Cerave night cream (love all 3 products) and at least once a week (sometimes twice) I use Origins Charcoal mask (this is a great product. It worked better for me than Glam Glow, is cheaper, and the container lasts much longer). Thanks for all you do Kate to make this such a resourceful blog.

Has anyone tried the new Olay regenerist product line or the new Loreal anti-aging line?

Reply
Sarah says · 04.15.15

I’ve heard good things about Olay, but nothing really about L’Oreal. For eye cream, I really like Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream, it’s the only one I’ve used and actually noticed results. I recently switched from Dermalogica to all drug store products – I LOVE CeraVe.

Robin says · 04.15.15

I have been using the Olay luminous face cream in the morning and at night. I feel it has made a huge difference with the dark spots on my face. I also tried the illuminous eye cream both day and night but do not see any changes.

I don’t know if I can try anything else after using the Fresh Lotus Youth preserve that you recommended! That moisturizer has done wonders for my skin. But I do like that Burt’s Bee’s is so much more affordable and that it has SPF 30 (I live in AZ so that is a must in the summer) Can’t wait to hear what you think of these products you’re trying!

I started noticing around the age of 26 that I didn’t look 19 any more and it bugged me way more than I thought it would. I started incorporating anti-aging products into my skincare and that helped, but I have since started using Mary Kay skincare and I have to say, at 31 my skin has never looked better. I get compliments on my complexion now and that NEVER used to happen. I still do not look 19 but I’m okay with that. 😉 We’re all going to age, nobody is going to look 19 forever, but we can take good care of our skin and look and feel beautiful at every age and stage.

Hi! I have been using Rodan and Fields products for nearly 2 years and cant say enough good things about them. I love them so much that I sell them too! My main complaint was dullness and brown spots but after using the Reverse Line, they are gone and the youthful glow is back! Im a mom of 2 little boys and really appreciate having skin that doesnt require makeup to walk out of the house everyday. Kate – Id love to provide you with regimen to try. Feel free to contact me. I am so glad that you put these products on your blog. I am always looking for under-eye cream for that sensitive skin! Sunscreen is pretty the only anti-aging stuff I put on my face right now, so hopefully some of these products look like they would be perfect!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this line!!! I am very interested in finding an anti-aging skincare line that’s somewhat NATURAL, and actually works but that is so hard to find.

I looked into R+F before but it’s so full of chemicals, I just can’t…

Can’t wait to see your before and after shots!

I love, love, love Burt’s Bees, but haven’t ever tried their skin care, so I can’t wait to get your take on it. My facial skin has been through the hormonal ringer…I’ve been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for more than seven years. So I definitely get breakouts at least monthly…I can set my calendar by it. I have yet to find a skincare routine that helps me. It seems that no matter what I do, I’m going to get breakouts that one time of the month each month. I even splurged and tried the Philosophy products you recommended and haven’t seen a change. So I’m excited that youre trying Burt’s Bees. I LOVE their lotions, lip balms and lip glosses. Good luck!

I think you and I are the same age, or nearly the same age, and what you’ve pointed out in your photo are new(er) areas of concern for me as well! I also think it’s best to embrace aging rather than go for botox or plastic surgery. While that’s my own philosophy, some people get it to keep up their self confidence, and I think that’s okay, too. Anyway, I love Burt’s Bees, but haven’t tried this particular skin care line from them. I’ll look for it the next time I go to the grocery!

Thanks for sharing this!! I’m 22 and it wasn’t until about a year ago that I really started to care about washing my face properly and using the right types of products. I know I know. My mom would always try to get me to do it when I was younger but of course I didn’t care. Still mad at the younger me for that lol. But it’s crazy because its so true that you have to start taking care of your skin now to prepare yourself for the future. You know you don’t want to do any extremes to make yourself look 20 years younger but you want to do enough so that you don’t look 20 years older. I feel like so many ladies don’t understand that concept. There are times when I don’t feel like washing my face at night because I’m too tired but it’s worth it in the long run when your face thanks your for that 30 years down the road haha! Thanks for this post! It’s very helpful and I’m so going to buy some Burt’s Bees products now!

Have a great day girl! 🙂

Hi, Kate!

I can’t wait to see how you like this line. I’ve been eyeing it for a while and would love to know what you think of it before I purchase it. I’m 32 years old and want to address early signs of aging. I currently use a combination of brands but nothing I’m especially “married” to at this point.

Hope you and your family are doing well! Happy weekend!
