On Saturday, December 13th, David will be one year old!

This year has truly been full of immense joy. There were certainly challenges mixed in as well, as any mother can attest to, but the rewarding and wonderful times far outweigh the tough ones.

It’s odd to be pregnant again during this time of the year, especially as I reflect on this having been my last week of pregnancy with David last year. I was so excited to meet him! We had chosen his name at this point so I loved referring to him by name and waiting in great expectation to hear his cries on 12:37p on that unforgettable Friday.

A former client, from my days behind the chair, told me once that she wrote a letter to her kids on their birthday every year. I’m writing one to David this week. It will stay private, of course, and I’m not sure how I’ll be able to fit all that I want to say about the first year of his life on a sheet of paper!

I have so enjoyed the time that it has been just David and I for the past 12 months. I can hardly believe there will be another baby here in February, and I’m so anxious to see the relationship form with David and his sibling!

I was forewarned that boys take up a special place in a moms’ heart, and my love for the one who made me mom continues to multiply with every passing day.david1

For some reason this story really touched me; babies are the sweetest things in the world and i am starting to realize what the Bible means when it says “children are a blessing from the Lord.” I love your family and love your blog so much! Sometimes people dont know when they can be a blessing to others, but Kate, you are such a blessing in my life, to be able to read your blog; you’re just inspiring. 🙂
Enjoy Saturday with David! 🙂

I love the idea of writing letters to my kids! I have a 4 and almost 2 year old and I bought them each a little journal that I write quotes, verses, adn letters to them in throughout the year! I look forward to giving it to them when they are older.

I highly recommend keeping a mother’s journal in addition to birthday letters – I started one when my daughter was born and I cherish it so much! I write the journal to her, and talk about different experiences and special moments. It’s so wonderful to go back and read about moments from her life. I plan to give her the journal when she’s older.

What I have done every year is take a picture of my son at the time of his birth on his birthday – 7:39 am. From birth to eight years old so far. Sometimes he is awake. Sometimes he is not. Regardless, they are picturs that I treasure.

You just wait. My eldest BABY is 15 1/2. Has her driving permit and a sophomore in high school. I seriously get choked up to think about my three children growing up before my eyes while I wonder where the time has gone. I LOVE my kids, I don’t like them sometimes but I LOVE them so much that it is heartbreaking. I miss the days of holding them and rocking them and watching Franklin with them and snuggling with them. We’re in a different season with them and I love getting to know them as pre-teens and they always seem to need me, but I miss it when my babies needed me. I love reading about David and your pregnancy and growing family. Enjoy them and always laugh with them. 🙂

I’ve so enjoyed following your journey this past year, Kate. Thanks for sharing your highs AND lows. So many bloggers paint their lives as a big bowl of cherries, but you just tell it like it is, and that why we keep reading! Write on!

My boys are grown and I still feel this way about them. I have never enjoyed anything as much as being a mother. One now in college (20) and one a junior in high school (16), they continue to bring so much joy in my life. They have and continue to be a blessing. I am thankful to be a mom!

While I’m not a mother yet, your posts about your children absolutely warm my heart! When (God-willing) my husband and I begin our family someday, this blog will definitely be one of my key resources. Not only for the practical reviews and advice, but for inspiration to begin sweet traditions like this letter writing idea! Thanks for sharing.

Happy birthday to David! He is too cute. I hope he gets his own little birthday cake to play in and you take adorable photos (that maybe we can see?)! My sister and I are only 18 months apart, and we have been best friends since she was born. Being that close in age is really special. ♡

Gorgeous photo’s Kate. The bond that forms between siblings is pretty amazing to watch. They are lucky to be able to grow up together. My two little girls are 22 months apart and they have become the best of friends. You wait until you see David and baby together, it will take you breath away.
I wish you both all the best. Happy Birthday David!

My mom used to write letters to my sister and I, each in our own little notebook when we were younger. When we were about 15 or so she told us about the notebook and would occasionally read one or two entries to us. Then, when I moved out she gave me the notebook to read and on the last page was a letter to me that she had written the day before. It is a gift that I will always cherish.

It’s funny the things that stick out in your memory. I was pregnant with baby boy #3, sitting in the waiting room of my doctor’s office, when I read that you were expecting. Hard to believe how quickly time has gone by! Happy Birthday to David!

Happy birthday to your little one! My baby girl just turned a year a few weeks ago. I wrote her a letter too, and it was so hard to say all that I wanted to say about her first year of life. I bawled while writing it! I know you’ll find the perfect words.

My two boys were 13 months apart. They grew up together like twins. We loved it. They went through all the phases together. The best memory I have was when I dropped them off at school in the 2nd and 3rd grade, early in the morning. I had to move my car along but looking out the car window, I caught them walking and laughing together as they adjusted their little back packs on their own shoulders. I teared up with joy at the bond they had. And I also realized that even though I could not be there with them, they were not alone. They had each other. Congratulations on your blessings!

I have one of each. While I love them equally, boys do have a special bond with their mom. The same can be said for daddy and daughter. Thank you for sharing. David is precious!
