wearing OPI “I Sau Paulo Over There”, mug (old from Crate and Barrel)

I have some brand new information : fall is my favorite season. Oh, yours too? I guess it’s just the two of us then.

I love wearing greys and dark colors on my fingernails and toenails in the fall and winter. That’s right, I said toenails. You cannot neglect your toes just because your sandals have been stashed away for the season.

I usually pick a darker shade for my toes, and try to pick something that kind of “goes” for my fingernails. But, pretty much the only person who sees my toenails in the fall and wintertime is my husband, and amazingly he doesn’t have an opinion on what they look like.

He does have an opinion about the bottoms of my feet that feel like sandpaper when they touch his leg in the night. Weird.

Below are a few of my favorite colors for fingernails and toenails this fall and winter. Besides the obvious greys, I’ve been loving navy’s and even the right shade of deep, forest green!

fallnails1. OPI “I Sau Paulo Over There”, 2. Zoya “Ryan”, 3. Butter London “Dubs”, 4. Essie “Take it Outside”,

5. Essie “The Perfect Cover Up”, 6. Essie “Tuck It In My Tux”, 7. Habit “Deep Sea”

What nail colors are you loving this fall? I’m always looking to add to my collection!

Chinchilly by Essie! It’s similar to the light gray one you have here.

I think there will need to be a support group soon for people who go to Target and buy way too many Essie nail polishes! I will bring the cookies 🙂

I loved this color so I bought it at target, & found it’s gummy, streaky & takes FOREVER to dry since I have to apply so many coats to even look decent. It’s the Complete Salon Manicure formula. Fail. 🙁

Reply
Bonnie says · 11.04.14

Yes! To Commander in Chic. It’s been a favorite for several years now.

Jen says · 11.04.14

i agree with Essie Chinchilly. I also started wearing Essie Smokin’ Hot this year and love it! It’s a bit dark and will transition well to winter!

I have been obsessed with Nina Ultra Pro lately (from Sally’s). I paint my nails Sunday night, slap on a topcoat, and the polish lasts the whole week without chipping, which is kind of a miracle for me. I’m currently wearing a color called maple syrup that is a deep burgundyish brown and very fallish.

Caroline says · 11.04.14

My nails really need painting so this has given me some inspiration! Lately I have been going between dark reds and greys!

Bonnie says · 11.04.14

After hearing about it for years, I finally started using Seche Vita fast drying top coat, and it has taken some of the frustration out of doing my nails. I don’t know what it is about Essie polishes and me, but I find them to be very streaky and the consistency to vary widely from color to color. Mademoiselle is the only color I’ve been able to use consistently. I always end up going back to OPI. The Sinful Colors line at Walgreen’s works well too and is very affordable. And Vinylux is great for drying fast. Anyone have a recommendation on the new “gel type” products that don’t require a UV light?

Reply
Nancy says · 11.04.14

I tried the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel last week and was chipping about 36 hours later. Kinda disappointed in them for what it’s worth. 🙁

You should host a nail polish exchange sometime (you know, in your spare time 😉 I participated in one once and it was so much fun. The one I participated in was specific to OPI (so everyone got the same quality in exchange).
I absolutely love doing my own nails – I know so many people who prefer going to a salon, but not I! In fact, Amazon just delivered a bottle of Vinylux top coat to my door yesterday…at your recommendation…so I’m excited to try it out!

Follow-up – I am BEYOND happy with my Vinylux top coat…thank you for the recommendation! (I also ordered some Diane bobby pins and hope to love them as well! :))

In your pictures, you look like you are losing hair in the front. I had the same thing happen to me when I started to have kids. Get on that b/c it can get much worse with your hairline and appearance. Hang in there!

Reply
Sarah says · 11.04.14

Did you really have to point that out? What about a thank you for writing such a cool post?! Really… honestly i have not noticed anything wrong with Kate.. and with having kids there are sacrifices you have to make or go through; but its worth it cause children are a blessing from the Lord. 🙂 🙂 🙂

You MUST try the hero shade ‘Porchester Square’ by Nails Inc London.

Seriously…. You won’t be disappointed. They do it in regular gloss polish and gel effect. Both of which are hard wearing and always attract compliments!

Ohh how I love a good greige! Right now I’m wearing this awesomely grungy deep reddish purple maroon. I wish I had another way to describe it, but I got them done for Halloween so I don’t know exactly which brand/color it is 🙁 The closest I’ve been able to find is “Lacy not Racy” by Essie. It’s a lovely fall/winter color though 🙂
