way behind

A large part of me wanted to spend a good 2 hours at the computer last night working on a post for today but I decided not to. Why? Because I was tired and because I tell people not to put rushed & cruddy content up on your site just for the sake up putting content up there.

The time that could have been spent on content this week was spent troubleshooting a cache issue on my website. Some readers aren’t able to see any new posts since mid-june. I’ve received comments asking if I’m on a blog break, which I’m not!

So, I’ve been doing my best, and reaching out for help, to figure out the problem. WordPress, as it turns out, isn’t a walk in the park. Truthfully, I’m disenchanted and am beginning to regret the switch.

But, it’s too late. I’m here. And eventually things will get fixed. Right? Tell me I’m right.

So, I’ve got nothing for you today. I’m way behind on content andΒ I hate that feeling.

I’m working a bit this weekend to make up for it, so my plan is to come back next week refreshed and caught up!

Have a great, restful weekend! I imagineΒ I’ll be taking peach breaks every 30 minutes because the peaches I picked up at the farmers market yesterday were amazing.

Hooray for peach season!

I wasn’t able to see any new posts for a while either, so I just unsubscribed and re-added it to my reader and it fixed things. Just a suggestion for others having the same issue! p.s. I use digg.com for my reader and while it’s no Google Reader, it’s pretty good!

I just realized today that I hadn’t had a blog post in my inbox for weeks, and popped over today to see why. This explains it. (I think it took so long to notice because I see your Instagram posts so you weren’t completely gone.)

I’ll try this suggestion of unsubscribe and re-add.

I can as well Kate! I wish I could offer more help but I found wordpress so debilitatingly painful to use – but I have no patience at all. Absolutely none. (Which we all know you have plenty!) No worries – it’ll get better!

My hubby & I own & operate a small online home business. So. Much. To. Learn. Always there are new things to learn, upgrade, adjustments, etc. I feel for you, but I know you get it worked out.
I have a tiny, neglected blog on blogger which, when I have the time I love everything about Blogger. Actually, I almost followed you to WordPress. I’m thinking twice about switching. Keep us posted while you “get the bugs out”.
Strawberries are in season here in Northern Maine; came home with several quarts of the juicy, red beauties which my four boys almost immediately gobbled down!
Have an awesome weekend.

I haven’t had any issues seeing your stuff since the switch. I did have to make a new bookmark of your blog on safari once you switched to WordPress, but no other issues.

sorry about the blogging issues…I know there’s a problem with blogger too…I’m just too technically challenged to figure it out. ha! and I too am a peach aficionado. we just returned home from driving to savannah from texas and I made my husband drive 100 miles out of the way to get peaches from a place in Barney, Georgia where I swear I think the best peaches on earth come from. ha!

I see your blog posts, old and new, with no problems. But, I use my good old home Dell pc and Chrome. Your website is on my early morning, list of must visits along with Houzz, Martha Stewart, etc. Also no problems on my iPad.

Oh My Goodness!!!!
I am absolutely on board with you about wordpress.
I followed the hype instead of my heart and here I am. I can’t stand it and trying to fix anything is like taking an advanced physics course. Blech!
I can’t upload any images so I have to do this roundabout way of doing it. Its a pain in my rear.
Thank you for saying that you hate it too. I feel like other bloggers think I am crazy.
Good luck to all of us.
Hugs,
Hata

Soooo I admit I know nothing about blogging so how come you can’t switch back? Did you have to pay to be on WordPress or something?

Melissa says · 07.11.14

WordPress is no joke. It’s all Greek to me. Thank goodness I have a hubby who works in IT and if anything goes wrong I just hand him my computer and say “Fix it please!” and he does. I’m a bit spoiled that way. But I hear ya on the frustration. There are times when I’m like “What the heck was I thinking, this is way too complicated and I want to burn it!!!” and times when it’s all “Oh look at all the super cool options I have! Yay!!!”

Hope you get it figured out and that you find a WordPress guru to help you!

I just had to comment. I LOVE blogger and although thought for a second of switching, I am so glad I have not. I have yet to find a good reason to not use blogger. I have had no issues and have used it over 5 years! I even wrote a post about why people don’t have to switch to WordPress because I was so frustrated with everyone thinking it is better.

I say switch back. I cannot tell you how many times I hear of people having issues with plugins, updates, security, etc. Not worth it to me at all.

I subscribe through email, and for weeks almost months have not been getting a lot of emails. Hi Kate, sorry to hear about all the issues with WordPress! So frustrating. I have your blog linked as a favorite on my own blog (on Blogger). Initially after you switched to WordPress, I wasn’t able to see any new updates on your blog. However, after I deleted the ‘old’ link to your blog and then re-added it, I had no more issues. It totally fixed it!! Maybe other readers having issues, need to clear their cache and then make a new link or bookmark to your blog to resolve it…

Kate, first and foremost you are a mother. You do not need to feel guilty for not having time to post. Being Mama is a blessing, but can also be overwhelming with balancing everything. I admire you! I love your blog and think that you put a lot of heart into each post. I can say because of you and this blog, I now love my hair, and look forward to all posts about beauty! As a Mama of 3 it nice and refreshing to have something as simple as this blog to look forward too.
I hope you take some time for yourself this weekend and enjoy!

As a graphic designer / light developer, WordPress is GREAT! Just give it time! The cache issue is generally a back-end issue (in the coding) and can be fixed!

As a temporary fix, request that your followers try refreshing the page after they load your website. That often forces the browser (whichever it may be) to let go of what is cached and refresh the whole website and as a result your new content should load.

I am not a fan of wordpress either. There is blog that is about nothing but hurting people by twisting things around or posting flat out lies. I emailed them and asked nicely to remove that libelous content and they said I have to have a court order. As far as I am concerned they are no better than Facebook because they both make it easy to harass people but give no help to the person being harassed. I am currently on a 30 day FB ban for a pic of me but another page that has the same pic of me is not in violation. Explain that?
