FLORAL

floral shorts

Casual + Cute: stripe top (similar), sandals, bracelet, earrings, lip gloss

Date Night: top, pumps, nail polish, necklace

Saturday: earrings, bag, chambray shirt, sandals

I’ve always heard that it’s most flattering to wear pattern on the part of your body that you want to accentuate and keep everything else simple to balance it out.

I tend to avoid patterned shorts because I feel like they draw too much unwanted attention to a particular area. Where do you think David gets his thighs from? hint: not his dad.

Although sometimes it’s timeΒ to break the rules and wear whatever you want.

I’ve been lightly browsing the stores for some floral shorts that don’t make me feel like an 8 year old or a grandmother. There’s a fine line with floral shorts, you know. They can be done right, and they can be done very, very wrong.

It’s easy to build a variety of outfits off of them too. Keep the shorts as the “loudest” part of the outfit, and pick items that compliment, but don’t compete with, them.

I have yet to find the perfect pair for myself, but I feel that this hole in my wardrobe is needing to be filled quickly. I mean, we are well into July already. Summer is half way over!

Who am I kidding, summer here lasts until late October. I’ve got plenty of time to floral shorts.

I love that floral pattern, even though I avoid patterned shorts. I love the colors in the pattern.

I know what you mean about patterns. This pattern, however, is adorable! Love the summer feeling in these outfits.

You make me want to stop blogging about healthy foods/trim healthy mama/paleo/farm life and start blogging about fashion, Kate. LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Love floral and patterned shorts…on other people. πŸ™‚ I struggle with shorts as it is for my body type. Plus, I find them somewhat uncomfortable. Oh well. Dresses, skirts, jeans…they are my friends.

I love when you do these posts! I get really overwhelmed online shopping and its hard to put outfits together when there are so many options. These are nice, concise and inspired.

Dunno about the triangle, but a little closer to the coast the four seasons are Summer, Summer with leaves, Christmas, and Summer with pollen.

I especially love the third outfit, I was thinking about buying some patterned shorts but thought I couldn’t make enough outfits with them. Great ideas!

that navy silk madewell top is gorgeous!! i was sad to see it’s sheer in the back though, what’s the point of that?

not sure i’d wear the striped tank with the shorts but i’m generally not super into print-mixing. maybe navy with tiny white stripes would clash a little less?

I love those shorts. I know what you mean about finding some that don’t look like they are for girls, but also don’t look like they’re for a grandma. Although, I have this problem with a lot of things. Now that I’m in my thirties, it’s hard to find clothes that don’t look like they’re for teenagers but also are the dreaded mom clothes. I may be a mother, but I don’t want to dress like my mother did.

I’m in the same boat! I’m trying to find fun shorts that don’t make me feel like I’m a child. You always have fun suggestions with clothes. Thanks for sharing. Happy Monday!

Those are really cute options! I also don’t have one, althought I have some floral skirts. But I agree that are really summary and make you feel like on vacation, don’t they?!

Kate, I never comment, but I just had to say THANK YOU for my Monday laugh. I LOL’d at my desk at this bit: “I tend to avoid patterned shorts because I feel like they draw too much unwanted attention to a particular area. Where do you think David gets his thighs from? hint: not his dad.” Thanks for keeping it real!

Love those J. Crew shorts! I was in the store the other day debating whether to buy them because I didn’t know what I would wear as a top… Thanks for the suggestions!

Kate, what would you wear under the top from Madewell since it’s sheer in the back? I love it but don’t know what would look right underneath. Thanks!
