Pick Me Up’s (makeup for on the go touch ups!)

Sometimes I need a little “makeup pick me up” about 3/4 of the way through the day.

If I have something going on in the evening, and I’ve had a particularly busy day, it helps me feel a little fresher to touch up a few areas of my makeup before I go out for the evening.

I don’t want to, or need to, redo every part of my makeup, so I pick a few areas that are going to have the most impact on how fresh my makeup will look.

1. Swirl a brush in a little illuminizer and apply to cheeks. Dust whatever remains on the rest of your face. Not only will the slight shimmer in an illumining product “wake up” your face, the color will help you look a little warmer as well.

2. Touch up any eyeliner to give eyes a bit more definition. Have you ever tried to apply another coat of mascara over 8 hour old “already-mascara-ed lashes”? It’s not fun. And the results usually aren’t great. So, if you need a little bit more darkness and definition around your eyes, try freshening up your liner. Maybe even pull it out a bit at the sides to give more impact. Or do the easiest trick in the book and line your waterline with it.

3. Touch up blemishes or dark spots, and brighten up under eyes. Faded under eye concealer will expose just how tired you are in an instant. Freshening up your under eyes can have a surprisingly brightening affect on your whole face.

4. Add a little more color to your eye shadow. If your shadow has faded, or is just a little too light from the day, press a little darker color into the crease or outer corner to add more boldness.

As far as makeup brushes go, these would be great little travel brushes. However, when you are compiling your “on the go touch up kit” try to grab things that you don’t need to use a brush with!

The nicest things about these little makeup touch ups? It’s really something you could do in your office bathroom or even your car. Simple little refreshing steps to help you look like you’ve just applied your makeup.

I definitely agree about touch ups… I tend to touch up my lip color (probably more than once depending upon what I am wearing), blush, and highlighter…. and maybe eyeliner as well. Thanks for sharing your tips and products!

Great idea. I’ve been noticing more and more that I need to bring products with me to work because my dreaded under eye area looks a bit chalky after 3PM. Thanks for the tips!

…why has it never occurred to me to bring some small things with me? Like eyeliner. I’m feeling really unintelligent right now. But on the other hand, I’m also totally in awe.

Kate, what are your favorite brightening under-eye concealers? My complexion is fair and very similar to yours. Thanks!

Question: When freshening up your under-eye concealer, do you just put new product on top of the old? Or do you try to remove anything first?

Sometimes I feel like I can get a little cakey under my eyes. That’s always been my biggest problem area.

Thanks!

try mixing it with a little cream so it doesn’t get too cakey!

This is great, I always struggle with the ‘first aid’ makeup kit in my purse.

Not related to this post–but I just got a really bad haircut [way too many layers, layers aren’t blended well, and getting it fixed would require taking way too much hair off.] Have you ever done a post on dealing with a bad haircut? Right now my ‘go to’ strategy is lots of curls. Do you have a previous post that tackles coping with a bad haircut?

Thanks for your great blog–it’s a fantastic resource!

I came across one site: haircurltool.com and was told with the coupon: HCTVIP, I can enjoy up to Up to 50% off Babyliss Hair Curl Tool plus Free Shipping. Does anybody know the site? I visited the site and the price is only £61.16? Is this site safe?

Hey Kate! I haven’t commented in a while, but I’ve still been following along! First of all, the baby is precious and motherhood looks great on you!!! I totally agree with freshening up so thanks for posting such great tips. You may have already posted this somewhere, but we have a very similar skin tone and I’d love to know your favorite concealer(s).
Thanks!!!
