Valentines Day Beauty: Hot Pink
Well, my baby is 8 weeks old today! It’s weird to measure his age because sometimes 8 weeks means 2 months, but it’s only the 7th and his birthday isn’t until the 13th.

Come to think of it, we are actually already in the calendar year of his first birthday. That’s pretty crazy to think about. Also, it will be 12/13/14. I should probably do a numbers theme.

Okay enough about that.

Here are my top 5 moments of the week!

1. This isn’t documented but I made Pioneer Woman’s Sugar Cookies yesterday. Have you ever made them? They are pretty incredible. The best sugar cookie I’ve ever had. They are lighter than air, and the perfect amount of crumbly.

2. I’m still really good at darts. I mentioned this last week and since then my husband and I are still playing as many nights as we can. I’m still beating him, although he did pick up a win last night.

Anyway, I know this isn’t really interesting but you must know that I almost never win at anything around here. My husband is not only competitive and enjoys winning, but he happens to usually dominate in whatever we are doing.

In fact, my family takes an annual ski trip and the first time Justin came along I was so excited to finally be more advanced than him at something, especially a sport. He had only skied in North Carolina, which doesn’t really compare to skiing out west.

So, we get on the slopes. The whole walk over to the chair lift I’m telling him how the day after my first day of skiing I was killin’ it on a black diamond. He was impressed. Maybe even a little intimidated, I don’t know.

We ride the lift to the top of the mountain. I graciously decided to start his lesson on a green run, the easiest run of all. I explain what “pizza” is and tell him he needs to take it slow. I even motion to a nearby train of tiny 3 year olds skiing with their instructor.

“See what the babies are doing? You should do that. This is a very hard skill to learn. . .”

He gives me a nod, and then takes off down the mountain in front of me.

I watch him from behind, just waiting for him to wipe out, and sure enough he doesn’t. We get to the bottom of the mountain and I’m just plain disgusted. How could he possibly be so dang good at something he tries for just about the first time that I’ve been doing for years?

It’s just in his blood I guess.

I gather my pride that had blown off me as I tried to catch him flying down the mountain and realize that this is just how my life is going to be. He’s just going to be better at sports.

Fast forward to now, 5 years from that fateful day on the mountain, and I’m finally back in first place. It feels good.

3.  The sweetest photographer in history came over this week and shot some photos of David and me. There is a long story regarding a different photographer that I cannot explain at the moment, but I hope to be able to soon.

Nonetheless, Jordan captured some really sweet moments of David and I together, and got some great shots of David by himself. She and I clicked immediately, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the photos!
4. David has become quite the spit up king, which I know is totally normal. So, he wears bibs pretty much all the time.

One time we had our friend Chris over and he wanted to hold David. It had been over an hour since his last feeding, and he had already burped plenty and even spit up some.

So, Justin hands David to Chris and says, “You probably don’t need a burp cloth, he won’t spit up.”

No more than 2 minutes passed after David had settled in on Chris’ lap, and an eruption of white spilled from his mouth. Because of Murphy’s Law, the spit up landed all over Chris’ jeans. Poor guy.

Justin and I were cracking up about it, but I’m sure Chris didn’t think it was as funny. Either way, he took it like a champ, and we gave him a burp cloth next time.

So, I had a gift card to Pottery Barn Kids and saw these cute little bibs (currently on sale for $22.99 down from $29.50). They cost a pretty penny for bibs, but hey–that’s what gift cards are made for right?

Of course, I fell in love with them and now they are my favorite. I wash them constantly. It’s the perfect size, tightness around his neck, and absorbs even a huge amount of spit up.

5. Lastly, a bit of housekeeping:

I find myself thinking about this blog often.

Not in a bad way, more like a “I wish I had more time” kind of way.

I took a few weeks off after David was born, but perhaps I should have taken a few more?

I liked having something to work on while he napped, so I was anxious to get back into it!

While he’s still generally an easy baby, I’m learning there are great days and there are challenging ones. And the challenging ones mean I don’t have a lot of time to spend on the blog.

My husband and I have talked about a few options to give me a little bit more uninterrupted time to work and we’re figuring that out.

I’ve struggled with the balance of beauty + personal posts (personal ones being stories about David, etc). I can’t deny that I’m a mom, but I don’t want this place to become purely a “mom blog”. Sure, I may have a different definition of “mom blog” than you do, but I hope you get what I’m saying.

So, I’m going to try something. I’m making Wednesday’s baby post days. And that’s particularly funny to me because one of David’s nicknames is Wednesday. Aaaaand now is as good as a time as ever to explain that one.

So my dad’s nickname is Tuesday because an old boyfriend of my sister once called him Ricky Ticky Tuesday (based off the book Tikki Tikki Tembo) and eventually we dropped the “ricky ticky” and just called him Tuesday. My husband may have initiated the partial “dropping”of the nickname, but I can’t remember.

So, David looks a little bit like my dad in some aspects, so we jokingly call him Wednesday from time to time. Everyone in my family gets a good laugh out of it.

So, back to Wednesdays. Wednesdays are going to be baby days. If I have a particularly funny story, or something I’m dying to share on another day, I may. But my goal will be to keep it to one day a week for now.

The rest of the week will be the same typical content.

So we’ll see how this goes! I’m learning to be flexible and just take the days one at a time. This has been such a major life change, in the best of ways, and it’s natural for that to ripple into other areas of my life.

I’ve received a few emails from disappointed readers who do not like the new direction of my blog, and that is completely understandable. So, if you are looking for a purely beauty blog to read, these are a few of my favorites:

Maskcara

The Beauty Department

312 Beauty

Essie Button

Vivianna Does Makeup

I do hope you’ll stick around. The part that makes blogging so much fun is interacting with you, the reader. I appreciate you taking the time to check in, when you do.

Have a wonderful weekend!
(oh and in case you didn’t know, this whole high five for friday thing started here)

The picture of you and David is beyond sweet! You are a beautiful momma!
I will have to print out the Pioneer Woman recipe because I have yet to find a good sugar cookie recipe after years of searching. Maybe this will be “the one”.
I hope you have a great weekend!

xo Always, Abby

I really love the new direction of your blog. I think it makes it more than a superficial topic. And it is inspirational to see other moms going through struggles and pulling it together. I think as moms we need to support each other- and sometimes that means when you have a child, things change and evolve. As they are supposed to. Life after children is beautiful chaos and sharing that is good and worthy.

Just wanted to say, you rock! My husband is the same as yours. He’s naturally good at EVERYTHING so when I get a win, which almost never happens, it must be celebrated. My “baby” is almost 4 and I’ll be honest, I do miss more beauty type blogs but guess what? That’s my problem, not yours. I come to your blog just as often as I used to and will continue to do so. I enjoy your baby updates not only because David is a doll, but because it reminds me when my 3 were that little. So keep doing what you’re doing! 🙂

I think you’re blog is still a lovely balance. I like the blog because it’s human and close and relate able. If someone doesn’t like that and only want reviews on hair color or lipstick then I’m sure they could find a more suitable place. When I read the blog I can still find great reviews, great tips, still figure out how to style my hair with you’re videos and laugh as a mother. You’re doing a great job!!

I started following you on Instagram- I forget how I found you, then recently checked out your blog. I love it! I got a hair cut similar to yours back in October after I got married. I have pretty fine, limp hair and after just a few weeks of reading your blog I’ve already picked up so many valuable tips on how to style it right. That’s not the only reason I love your blog, but I just wanted to thank you for that anyway. I don’t see the problem with you including your son on the blog, everything changes when you become a Mom- plus he’s adorable! I don’t think your blog content has changed that drastically either. I will definitely be sticking around 🙂

I love reading about your life. I feel like we have become friends over the last year. That’s not weird is it? No ones life is completely filled with one topic. Our lives aren’t definable like that, so write about what you want, and I will read every single post because that’s what friends are for 😉

I am also enjoying the new direction of the blog. I am a first time mom as well; my little girl just turned 6 months old. It is nice to see that I’m not alone in the ‘struggle’. I enjoy all of your posts, and am often envious of how ‘together’ you seem to have everything. If your readers are truly your friends, they will understand and enjoy the shift of focus.

Happy Friday! I love your blog. As a fellow mom I like your mix of beauty and baby :-). I always get excited when you have a new blog post no matter what it is. I love it when bloggers share a little of their personal lives. It makes them more real to me, someone I can relate with. Have a great weekend.

I have been following your blog for so long I can’t even remember when or how I found you. I’m not big on posting, but I wanted to agree with what everyone else is saying, I love the direction your blog is taking! I’ve followed your journey from giving us hair videos to sharing with us that incredibly intimate post about your difficulty conceiving to that wonderful blog letting us all know ya’ll were going to be parents. It’s inevitable that your blog would evolve with you. I’m excited to continue to follow and see how your journey continues 🙂 Keep up the amazing work!!

I’m not a mom (yet) but I still enjoy reading your blog posts – even the ones about David! It’s great to hear peoples stories so I am better prepared for when I do eventually marry and have children. I’m sorry people have sent you negative emails – they should be much more understanding of the fact that you’re a new mom and are still adjusting and are obviously sharing things you’re excited about. Don’t worry though – you’ll have readers who will stick around no matter what!

I agree! I am not a mom yet either, (so I hope you know that non-moms still love you too!) but I know the day will come, and it’s nice to get a little glimpse into the future (plus, like everyone else, I think that David is precious!). I started following initially for the hair & beauty tips but I enjoy getting little windows into your day to day as well – it makes the blog feel much more personal and relatable. I do appreciate that you don’t intend for the blog to give fully over to diapers and couponing, but it sounds like most of us enjoy the mix that you have going on. Thanks for all the inspiration!

That way we can still hear about beauty, fashion and lifestyle posts but we can also keep up with your precious family. I know it probably sounds crazy but we feel like we know you since we read your blog daily. It’s nice to see that baby grow. I think you’ve come up with a perfect solution.

Kate, I love your blog. I love reading about the changes in your life. I feel like you’re a friend, even though we’ve never met. Your beauty posts are great, but it’s your personal posts with your life stories that I really love. I’m sad that other readers would actually complain that you’d feel comfortable enough to share your joy about David with us here. I’m not a mom and I don’t plan on becoming one, but I really do love reading about your journey with your husband and David. I think it’s a beautiful thing and it’s been such a natural evolution of your blog. You’re doing a fabulous job! 🙂

I think you’re doing a great job of balancing so far. You’re allowed to be excited about your baby! It’s natural to want to talk about him. Your world shifts when you become a mother. If some readers can’t understand that, too bad for them. I’ll definitely keep reading!

I love the changes in your blog, whether it is a long baby post, a hair or makeup tutorial, or a quick note that life happened. It makes you real! Life isn’t all fluff and fancy and even though you don’t share those dark corners we all have it is real life. The Internet often glosses over real. The Lord changes our seasons and I love that you share this new chapter!

In regards to your unfavorable photography experience, that’s too bad. We are just breaking up with a daycare provider who has also given us a bad experience. I love the new direction of your blog. You’re a real person and I like to hear about what’s going on. David IS what’s going on in your life right now so obviously you would talk the most about that right now. I appreciate those types of posts (particularly as I try to remember what’s it’s like with a newborn and what I need with #2 due next month!). When you can also post other content, I like to hear about that as well. I’ll take it all.

I would venture to guess that a great many of your readers are moms too, or are planning to be in the nearish future. My two cents worth would be that a mixture of a beauty and a mom blog is just what we need! How to still feel beautiful after having a baby. I wouldn’t try to separate the two. I want to know what you do with David while you do your hair, paint your nails, etc. I think there are plenty of other purely beauty blogs out there. I read yours because you’re real and I can relate to you. When I have my baby in a few months, I need to know that I won’t be in spit-up covered sweats with greasy hair every day. I need to know it’s ok to take time to take care of myself too.

I love your blog, both before you became a mom and now! Part of what’s great about finding a blog you love to read, is that you develop a relationship (well sort of) with the blogger. I like reading your blog because it’s like checking in with a friend, who happens to know a lot about hair and makeup. And when something amazing happens to your friend, such as having a baby, you want to hear all about it! Keep doing what you’re doing!!!

I look forward to reading it all the time, when I get a chance, it lifts my spirits and I even get a few tips… bonus! 🙂

I absolutely love the new spin you’ve taken with your blog. It makes you seem so much more real and “human!” I don’t know about everyone else, but you’re a gorgeous woman, with the perfect house, the perfect husband, perfect baby, perfect job, perfect hair and perfect makeup. Every. Single. Day. Hearing about being exhausted with a newborn, or not having time for everything just reminds us that you’re human just like the rest of us, and it’s awesome connecting with you that way, too. So as much as I love reading, and re-reading the beauty blogs, I love the David stories every bit as much. Keep them coming. 🙂 Happy Friday!!

Your life has totally changed. Of course your blog is going to change!! To me, blogging is all about personal experience. That’s why people do or don’t like blogs. They can relate to the blogger. If folks don’t like the new direction, they can read elsewhere. I love reading about your new little bundle and still love reading about the beauty content. I’m amazed that you’ve found any free time in these early days. I was so tired and drained, there wasn’t much I could do but nurse and take care of my baby girl. So keep up what you’re doing and don’t be hard on yourself! You’ll find a balance that works in time.

I know advertisers love daily posts but I love it when bloggers don’t post every day. It’s like a fun surprise in my reader.

MAYBE if David wasn’t so gosh darn adorable it would be different but thankfully we all get to enjoy his cute little self. Love reading your ‘wins’. And your ‘hard days’- gosh. TOTALLY relate. first time mom- check. first time working from home- check. working in beauty- check. Life is busy and beautiful. Your blog is the place I run to, when I have a moment or two, to have a little girl time or mom time. There are days when I don’t make it out of the house but need to feel not alone. But I do read your blog daily (or every other day…when I have the time) and really love your writing style and your content. Whatever you post, I’ll read it. I think that besides liking ALL the content on your blog. What really keeps me and most other people coming back is… YOU. You are so sweet, down to earth, authentic, and I enjoy hearing your take on just about any topic. I do love kids and therefore LOVE the baby posts. Besides if you did not inculde that part of your life it would not be authentic and that would be a true disappointment. Keep doing what you’re doing, baby posts and all. Your “balance” is just fine. Not to mention it is natural and will continue to evolve as David grows, goes to school, and you have more time. No worries. Just be you! That’s what we all love!

Writing, and sharing our experiences is what blogging is about. I say you go in the direction God leads and don’t worry about it. Your readers will stay. Being a new mom is tough and wonderful all wrapped into another. You’re totally not along, all of us mommies have been there a time or two 🙂

Hello! I never comment on blogs, but since it appears that you are struggling a bit with the direction of your blog, I just wanted to say that I started reading your blog because of the mix of mommy material. I don’t “follow” blogs, but I read them daily. I used to read only fashion blogs, but now that I am a mom of a 4 week old, I find myself gravitating to those bloggers that used to be fashion/beauty bloggers and recently had babies because I like to see how other new mommies are doing and how they are incorporating style into their new role. So keep it up. I love the little man updates. Reading your posts helps me not feel alone in this journey (while simultaneously making me feel bad that I haven’t combed my hair in a week :)).

I think it would be weird if you never mentioned your son in your posts. He’s a part of your life. Well, anyway. Just keep doing what you’re doing. And I’ll continue following 🙂

Hi Kate! I’ve been following your blog for a while and love it! I became a first time mom in October to a little man and also quit my job to be at home. I just wanted to let you know that I know how much your life changes (in ways you could not foresee and imagine) and the flexibility you have to have from day to day (I struggle with that a lot and applaud you for even having time to write this blog still!)

I’m not a mom and I personally don’t plan to become one. I’ve never commented on your posts before but I have followed your blog for well over a year now and I like your style. In my perspective it has always been a mix of the girly stuff and your personal life. It just so happens that now in your personal life you’re a mom and that is fine by me. Moms are women first, so it’s not like you have stopped being everything else that makes you you. So keep up the good work and don’t pay attention to the haters, from what I can see in these comments we all like your blog as is.

Great post! I think seeing the balance of your new life should be educational to all the women out there reading. While they may not be at a point in their lives that reading about being a new mom is helpful, I think it should be inspiring for them to know that work and baby can exist together. Keep doing what you’re doing. I certainly appreciate the balance, if that means anything 🙂

I love your blog and have felt you have kept the balance really well since David’s birth. I, for one, enjoy your posts about your family just as much as your beauty posts. The thing is, this is your blog, you can do whatever you like with it. If you lose a few readers because your blog isn’t 100% beauty all the time, you most likely gain new readers who enjoy your family posts. Have a nice weekend!!

I can understand why some readers may be upset with the change of content on your blog, however I personally enjoyed you allowing us a peek into your personal life. I think its wonderful that you acknowledge that some readers are only here for the beauty aspect and are trying to work with that. Just wanted to let you know I’ve been a reader for a few years and I don’t intend on going anywhere, I always enjoy the content that you post and I think you are someone to be admired. Thanks for being you!

I struggle in my own small blog for sticking to topics of one kind or another. Then I kind of made peace with it…there are millions of opinions out there. I’m writing mine on lots of topics. Others are writing their stories. That’s it. Some days I’ll connect, and some days I’ll sound like an isolated alien. It’s part of how I’ve applied the baby lesson of “one day at a time”. Love your blog!!

I love all your personal posts and baby talk! I’m a full time blogger and shop owner and I’m expecting my first baby this summer. I love reading your experience as a first time mom and blogger. I’m sure it’s hard to find the right balance. I sometimes have a hard time fitting it all in without a baby – I can’t imagine how much more difficult it will be with a baby!

As a blogger I cannot believe (actually, I totally can,) that people would actually take the time out of their day to email and criticize you for writing about such a huge event. Sure, you normally cover beauty etc, but really, do they think you have as much time for that now? Incredibly shortsighted in my opinion as in a few months time I’m sure you’ll be right back into the swing of it (or whatever new direction your prefer.)

I just had to send a comment of support. I love the blog and I occasionally get emails of a similar nature or comments on my own blog, and I feel like pointing out that they don’t have to read if they don’t like it! I work full time and doing the blog (although I enjoy it, don’t get me wrong) takes time out of my day that I could spend on other things so when people complain it really winds me up! Enjoy your baby – we’re all enjoying reading about him! x

Kate,
Hello from Kansas City! I find our lives to be so similar I guess that’s why I love your blog so much. I just had my first baby in October 2013, Rocky. I am also a hair stylist who decided to “retire” to stay at home. Having a baby is such a huge life change it would be absolutely nuts for you to not write about it, after all life is so much more precious than beauty and hair, right? I do love all things beauty/hair but when I look at my little boy I realize how much more fuller my life is. I love to hear about your experiences it makes you relatable to me. Please keep on doing what you are doing!
Love, Bess

Dear Kate,

I am sorry to hear that some of your readers are a bit disappointed about the new direction it’s taken, however in this very blog you did discuss your troubles conceiving and I am not sure why any of your readership should be surprised that you do blog about your newborn what comes along having a new infant- this shouldn’t be new to anyone who is reading your blog, and given that this is a beauty blog, etc., you do add personal tid bits about your life, and that is one of the reasons why I love your blog, because you blog about you the person., we, the readers get invited into your home and your life – we get to who you are! Even thought I personally do not have I still do enjoy your content.

Hope you have a great weekend!

I’m not a mom (yet) either and I love your blog. I follow you on Instagram as well. I check both out every day and I love that you still make an effort to look great! I have heard so many stories about how new moms chop off their hair and quit wearing makeup once their child arrives. That is so not me! I hope to continue trying new hairstyles and beauty products regularly when I reach that stage of life. I also love how you balance outward beauty with the inward beauty. As a christian, it can be confusing, but you handle it with grace! Thanks for being an inspiration!

I like that you have incorporated more of your home life into your blog – you seem like a very nice person, and a lovely momma, so I’m cool with the way things are going, too! I have older children, so baby items aren’t #1 on my list of interests, but I DO have lots of friends having babies so I’ve had quite a few good present ideas come from your blog. So, that works. Also, I’ve learned all about hairdo’s, so I’m a happy camper! I can’t quite seem to pull any of them off very well, but that’s user error. 🙂

You could create a “family” or “baby” tab on the top of your blog just like “style” or “beauty” and categorize them so people can find what they want. Also, I am loving the name of your blog even more now that you have a small little baby to care for. 🙂

I just wanted to voice my support. As a new mom, I’ve quite enjoyed your blog and the direction it’s taken. It’s never been exclusively beauty, so I’m not sure where the surprise is coming from. You do such a great job of making us feel like we’re chatting with a friend and because of that, so many of us are interested in David and your life as a mom. I for one want to keep on top of beauty and fashion even though I have a little person in my life that makes it so much harder. In that way, your blog has been such an encouragement for me the past couple of months. Chalk it up to not being able to please everyone and keep sharing your little corner of the world with us 🙂

When you said you would be a stay-at-home mom who also worked from home, I wondered if you quite knew what you were getting into with that. I truly think it’s harder than either staying at home (without a job) or working a full time job. Combining the two…I can’t imagine. Maybe find a sitter for a few hours a week and you can have a little time to sit at your desk and breathe! And I say that not because I want you to keep us happy, but because I know how taking care of a tiny baby can feel a little like drowning when those bad days hit. A little bit of a break can make all the difference in the world.

Don’t try and change who you are, do/say/blog what feels right in the moment. We all struggle with others “expectations” but don’t let a few nay-sayers change the essence of what you would like to share with others. Although you may have had some negative comments about the direction of your blog–I love it. Your blog should be a reflection of YOU. You are now a MOM and yes, you still love beauty products, but your approach might be a little different now. If that’s not a good fit with some readers, I wouldn’t worry about it. There are plenty of us Moms who will love hearing about the mix of your beauty posts, style posts and yes–Mom posts. The other blogs I read are usually geared towards crafting and DIY, you are one of the only beauty bloggers that I follow. The thing that you have in common with other blogs that I gravitate towards is a mix of style and personality. I would just follow your heart on this one. Don’t get too caught up in what others think (really easy for me to say, right?!). Looking forward to Wednesdays!!

I think it is great that people felt comfortable enough with you to be able to write and express their disappointment. You never said if they were negative so I am assuming they weren’t. I think it shows how approachable you are. And I commend those who were brave enough to write it.

I also think it benefits you. Although from the comments it seems like most support the direction your blog has gone in (I am one of them), if there are a few people who are disappointed, it could be part of a larger group who just have not expressed that. As a business, keeping customers is important. And although you can do whatever you want on your blog, I think if you were losing readers (which could result in lost revenue), you would want to know why. It might not change how you want to blog, but it is nice to know.

Not only that, but since you have expressed that you are trying to find what direction your blog will be going, hearing opinions on both sides may help you as you move forward. When I had my baby I thought I was going to be a mommy blogger, but it never felt right. I struggled for a while and then realized I just wanted to stick with food and nutrition.

Go with your gut, but don’t be afraid to change and modify as you grow into mommyhood.

First time poster, long time reader of your blog. I replied to this comment because I have similar sentiments. I think the Wednesday idea is pragmatic: you can include David in your blog, but the beauty-focused readers can skip that day. I found your blog through a pinterest link to a hair tutorial video (p.s. I have had complete strangers ask me how I have done my hair, and I led them to your blog). I am not currently a mom, but hope to be in the future. I can relate to some of the readers feeling that the blog has gotten “mom” heavy, but have continued coming back. Like many of the other comments, I think it is your writing style/personality that keeps people coming back.

I think the vast majority of your readership is perfectly understanding of you not being able to blog everyday now that you have little one. I actually have been pleasantly surprised with how often you have posted. I would try to maintain both sides – beauty and baby. That way you can advertise for both : P In all seriousness, though, that way you can write about what matters and is important to you.

p.s. did you recently add a “blogher” pop-up (that has since been taken off)?

I am disappointed to learn some readers don’t like where your blog is going, it’s progression how can that be a bad thing? Please don’t alter yourself to what some people deem an ‘appropriate’ beauty blog, you’re incredible just as you are. It’s your honesty and realness that makes you a joy to follow.

My humble opinion; this is not a beauty blog, it’s a small things blog. And given the person who writes it, I view it as about “small” things in a woman’s life. Therefore, there is plenty of room for baby, couple, beauty, and shopping talk.

I like the way it is now, but I may be biased since I also read some “mom” blogs.

That said, on way of dealing with it may be to vent more on David via Instagram ( we love the pics anyway) and write about it on the blog just once per week, as you are suggesting!

Best,

Just wanted to say I love how your blog has developed an changed. I love reading about David and your experiences as a mom. So while some might not appreciate it, I’m sure others agree with me that others of us do love it.

And speaking of Pottery Barn Kids–go ahead and put on David’s birthday list an Oversized Anywhere Chair–go ahead and get the oversized–I know he’s tiny but my son (now almost 7–tear) got one for his first Christmas when he was only 8 months old we still use it on a REGULAR basis. My daughter has one–it’s just the regular size Anywhere chair and it’s not as cozy and comfy and big and nice. I mean seriously, I can sit in my son’s and be just fine. They make forts with them and flip them over and sit on top of them. It’s well worth the money!! 🙂

I am a not-small person and I sit in my boys’ oversized chairs every night to read to them! I love them! The photograph is beautiful-that one alone would be worth the photo shoot! Love the blog direction, blogging is so personal that it would be impossible to not evolve as your life does

I have recently started my own blog and you are part of the inspiration for it (more about that here: http://www.thefsoflife.blogspot.com/2014/01/no-pressurejust-my-first-post.html). Your blog is inspiring because it is always uplifting and helpful no matter the content; that’s what I wanted my blog to be for someone too. I had my first child 11 months ago and when times were tough and I was living on no sleep I looked forward to reading your blog. It gave me inspiration to put on make up, or do my hair, or just stay in my PJs all day. It’s tough being a new mom and figuring out how to balance everything in your life. What’s important is that you feel good about it. When you feel balanced and at peace then that is the key. Personally, I enjoy posts like today the most (and the one about the baby monitor, haha) ! Keep up the good work; I love reading your blog daily no matter the content. http://www.thefsoflife.blogspot.com

Kate, Like many of the comments I read above, I found your blog thru Pinterest. After I watched the first hair tutorial video, I was hooked on your blog. I stop by every day to peek in & see what you are up to. It’s like having a long lost girlfriend & catching up every day. I very much enjoy your sense of humor, your sense of style, your helpful hints/tips, of course the hair tutorials especially since I have reached 40 & it seems like my hair won’t grow much past my shoulders any more. And like many have said above this is YOUR blog! It’s a place for you to speak your mind. Isn’t that the whole initial purpose of blogging?
Anyhow, keep up the good work! Both of my boys are grown & out of the house & it is always enjoyable to hear sweet stories from mom’s who enjoying their adventures with their angels

40 years ago we received a dart board for a wedding present. We did not have a dishwasher in our first apt. so we decided to play darts-loser washed dishes. Believe me, I got very good at darts very fast. Your dart playing beings back many fond memories as well as your new mommy posts. Enjoy it-it really does go very fast :(.

I personally don’t have a problem mixing the two….I do it quite often on my own blog (teacher and mom)….but I can understand that some people get turned off of it. So I actually started a new blog for just the family and personal aspects….would you consider that maybe?? I know it’s just one more thing to think about, BUT that one wouldn’t feel like stress to try and maintain. Then you could just have a little blurb on this one that says “if you want to see my posts about David, click here and here!” maybe…..just a thought 🙂

I love the new direction! I was definitely hesitant when you first announced your pregnancy, and thought I would be annoyed by a shift – but as it turns out, I enjoy the baby content the most! It’s an overall picture of a woman’s life: the balance between mom and still trying to keep your identity as a female.

Hi! I have really enjoyed following your blog ever since I found you on Pinterest several months ago. I had a baby boy one day before you did on 12-12-13. I too think its weird how we measure their age in weeks and months. I have a personal blog, nothing fancy, just for me to keep up with all the memories and photos. I use it more for a scrapbook. It’s brownidbride.blogspot.com if you want to compare baby notes. David is just precious! Keep the posts coming about him! Congrats!

I just learned of your blog recently and love the hair tutorials. But please, please, please do not put any burden on yourself to do more here now that you are a new mom. Yes, find a balance, but if that balance is 90% with family and 10% blogging for a while (or years) then go with that. You will never regret the time spent with your family. God bless.

So, you have a ton of readers, and a ton of comments on this blog, so you may not even read this, but…. As a mom of (now) teenagers, you will want to have the stories about David for your personal history and remembrance. They are priceless. Your readers will adjust. I like the combo idea, but you should do what you want for your own purposes. I figure if people don’t wanna read about my kids, they can scroll on…. but then I don’t make money by blogging, so…take that for what it’s worth. I love the David stories, and hearing about how you are transitioning. We have all been there.

I’ve blogged for years….though my blog isn’t nearly as wide read as yours. I also, never had a niche, in the blog world, but always remember this is YOUR blog. Readers will come and go, just stay true to yourself and the season of life you’re in. As a mom of a toddler I’d love to read your perspective of how your wardrobe has changed, how your hair care has changed, how your make up routine has changed. Becoming a Mom changes your perspective and your priorities…embrace it, continue to be authentic, and your blog will remain popular and profitable for you! Just a word of encouragement 🙂

My comment is slightly different, I suspect. I am someone who does not love “the baby stuff,” but I cannot imagine ever writing an email to you about it! My lack of interest has nothing to do with you; I am just not interested in websites that are personal journals as a general rule. A touch of news here and there is fine, of course, but otherwise they are simply not my style. You seem darling & delightful & lovely; I just do not actually know you! I am not personally disappointed in the direction of your site over the past many months because content creators are always welcome to write whatever they like, and I can choose to read or not read. When websites I enjoy become more personal, I suspect that my lack of interest, and therefore diminished visits to the site, are more than compensated for by new visits from people who ARE interested in personal online journals. All that being said, I comment now, which I rarely do and now do only because you address the business aspect directly on your site, to say that I like your Wednesday idea, and I will likely visit your site more frequently because you are making that change clear. Cheers!

I was a bit surprised when I read that people had emailed you that they didn’t like the direction of the blog. I know my personality is so not confrontational- keep the boat from rocking! but I would have never thought to send an email . This is the season you are in and I would much rather read heart felt posts than “created” posts to meet a demand. You are pleasing a lot of your readers and not some and that would be true if you only did beauty and fashion posts you would have readers begging for posts about David. Can’t please everyone so just focus on pleasing the person that you are around the most- you!

I love your blog, I originally found it looking for hair tutorials for idea’s to do my daughters hair for a dance. I thought that your tutorials on makeup were great also and so I subscribed! (which I’ve never done before)

I think you do a great job mixing the personal and beauty – although lately it has been more about that baby – but that’s to be expected! I know when I write, I like to write about what I am passionate about – and you are a new mom who is so in love with her son and wants to write about him, and all the new things that come with being a mom. Your life has changed monumentally and personally I have loved reading about your experiences. My children are 15 and 12 (almost 13) and reading your posts bring me back to that time when they were brand new! Your blog is interesting and funny and give us a little glimpse into your life. I love the beauty stuff too, so keep that coming also! But please don’t feel pressured to change on account of your readers…

I was binging to think that i was not doing the right thing to him that will make him love me forever,So i really gathered my courage and went to my boss wife office to ask her the secret that made her husband love her so dearly,In the first place she refused in telling me,She asked me why i am asking her such a question,That if is it not normal for every man to love his wife.I told her the reason that made me ask her about this question,That my lover started cheating on me lately,When i knelt down before her for her to see my seriousness in this issue that i went to ask her,She opened up to me by telling me that i should not tell anybody about what she want to tell me,The wife to my boss started to say to me that she used a very powerful spell on his husband to love her,And the spell that she used is harmless, But the spell is just to make him love her and never to look for any other woman except her. I QUICKLY ASK HER HOW DID SHE GET TO KNOW THIS GREAT,POWER,DURABLE AND PERFECT WORK SPELL CASTER,she said that a friend of hers also introduce her to him. Then i also ask her how i can meet with this spell caster.SHE SAID EVERYTHING TO ME,THAT THE NAME OF THIS SPELL CASTER IS Dr BRAVE.My next question to her was how can i get this wonderful spell caster,She said she is going to give me the email of the spell caster for me to contact him for my problem,Really she gave to me this spell caster email and i contacted him and explained all to him,And after every thing that needed to be done by the spell caster, In the next two days, My lover that hated me so much came to house begging for forgiveness and i was so glad that i have finally gotten my heart desire..I was so grateful to this spell caster for what he has done for my life.. So i made a promise to him that i will always continue telling the world about his wonderful work towards me and also to other that came to you before and also the people that will also get to you from my story that i narrated online now..I will want to say to the entire world that you should not cry over noting again, That there is a great man that has been helping individuals to restore there Joy and smile in there faces !!
