What Are Your Favorite . . . Maternity Stores

Working Out During Pregnancy

I have really enjoyed “dressing the bump”! I like wearing form fitting clothes to really show it off and not feel larger than I actually am. Not surprisingly, I’m drawn to the same type of things I would wear pre-pregnancy.

Here is a list of my favorite stores to shop for maternity clothes (and some of my least favorites)!

1. A Pea in the Pod (housed within Destination Maternity). I find a lot of my dressier tops from this brand, and have purchased a few that I wear on repeat. Between the “bump bucks” you earn and their constant promos, I rarely buy anything full-price.

2. Target. I have found some great things in the Target maternity section. Sort of the staples of my wardrobe  if you will. The fit is great, and you simply can’t beat their easy return policy in case you change your mind.

3. Pink Blush Maternity is an online store that I’ve bought just a few tops from. I like their price point, and how long a lot of their tops are.

4. I wear the maternity jeans I bought from Loft.com a few times a week! Between those and my Hudsons, I’m set. The fit is similar to regular Loft clothes too, so it’s easy to pick your size.

5. Gap has a pretty good selection of maternity clothes. I have a pair of maternity jeans from Gap that I really like. And a few tops! Their quality is just as high as regular gap clothes, and you can find a few great staples from this store.

A few of my not so favorite places to shop:

6. Asos. I’ve tried items from Asos a few times and always end up returning them. The tops are too boxy, and the dresses are either matronly or mis-shapen. It seems like Asos doesn’t do the ruched sides or tunics as much as they just make larger, flowier tops. A lot of them are pretty, but they don’t work for me.

7. H&M has a really tiny maternity section. I did just purchase a dress to wear to a wedding from H&M, but it’s not something I love. It’s more of a “I’m running out of time and I need something to wear” kind of dress. I wouldn’t have bought it if I had more time to shop.

When you are shopping for maternity clothes, buy things that you can wear a few times. I’m keeping it pretty plain and simple, and changing up the look with accessories. Invest in a great pair of maternity jeans too. I can’t tell you how much easier that makes getting dressed in the morning!

I’ve gotten most of my clothes at Motherhood Maternity (I believe it’s the same as Destination Maternity based on their ads), with the most success at the outlet.

Here we have very little places to shop for maternity clothes. Thyme is our main store, but I find lots of their stuff too frumpy and pricey. Target, Old Navy and H&M all have every small maternity areas so I have had a little luck there. I have also ordered from Pink Blush and really like it. I have bought very little for actual maternity clothes and just regular ones that work with the bump.

I really loved Target and Gap. I l-o-v-e the Liz Lange tanks and still wear them today. They were great while I was nursing and you can’t beat the length!

I also LOVED the Liz Lange tanks. At the time I worked in the OR as a nurse and had to wear scrubs with drawstring waists. Those bad boys never stayed up with a prego belly pushing them down! Thank God for those long tanks that I wore underneath or I would have been in danger of showing some plumber crack every time I bent over!

I resorted to ordering most of my casual clothes online at Old Navy – I am not a fan of buying clothes online, but their prices and their awesome return policy (prepaid shipping label for returns) made it pretty simple. Bought most of my work clothes (office setting) at Target or Destination Maternity/Pea in the Pod/Motherhood Maternity, and found a couple of things at Kohl’s Department Store and Boston Store as well. I will say, though, that it is difficult to find maternity clothing if you have something certain in mind. I had a tough time finding dress pants for work in the colors I wanted, in my size, and at a good price.

I live in the sticks, so the choices are very limited as far as walking into a store and trying things on. I loved Target (except for pants that were never long enough) and I actually found a lot of bottoms from Kohls. The fit was really good for me, and the prices so reasonable ( under $20) that I could afford to buy quite a few different shorts and capris in different colors without feeling guilty. I was able to wear non-prego skirts for almost my whole pregnancy, so I got by without spending too much money.

Kohls, Oh Baby! was really great and never paid for anything full price because of Kohls cash or a sale.

I own a multiple dresses from asos and LOVE them. There jersey so maybe thats why the fit is so great! The jeans are also super confortable. I’m 5’10” and busty and asos is (almost) the only store where i can find clothes that are long enough and dont look like im wearing a tant 🙂 the fit is somewhat loose though and i always order on the smaller side when in doubt.

Have you tried Old Navy? I am getting my list ready on places to shop for my hopefully soon bun in the oven!

Old navy has great staples and I lived in the knit gauchos with a rushed top for this last baby. But I think it’s because I had a summer baby. I was not a fan of their more wintry styles. I have a couple pair of gap long and leans that have been through three pregnancies, I second a great pair of jeans!

I just ordered some ASOS maternity skinny jeans and praying they are a good fit. I have a big maternity stash from my other two pregnancies, but a lot of it I definitely don’t want to wear again. I don’t like spending a lot on clothes I’ll only wear a short while, so hopefully I won’t need too much more. http://www.styleoyster.blogspot.com

I loved Old Navy tank tops and am still wearing them 3 months after I delivered my son. They are long enough to cover my hips and the side ruching is very flattering to my post-partum middle.

Isabella Oliver, Serephine Maternity, and some Pea in a Pod. I did get the pixie pant from J. Crew, those are awesome!

I found the best fit for my body at Motherhood Maternity. I really love their ruched t-shirts and fitted jersey dresses. My favorite maternity outfit was black leggings with a jersey dress. So comfy! Felt like wearing pajamas. 🙂

I loved Old Navy when I was pregnant! I wasn’t a dress girl, but they had a lot of cute shirts. I got my pants at Motherhood Maternity. I got a few comfortable lounge items at Target too.

In Canada, I really feel like pregnant women are underserviced. Thyme maternity clothes are kinda ugly an really, really expensive. They now have a “luxe” line with some edgier stuff but they cost even more. I got skinny jeans at ON for a good price. Otherwise I ordered a bunch of stuff to a friend’s house in the US from pea in the pod and shopped at a Gap while I was there. It is so, so frustrating. I feel like I can’t dress the way I would normally dress. Target has good staples but it is so picked over all the time. You are lucky to have so many options!

I bought most of my maternity wear from Ebay during my last pregnancy! couldn’t see the point in getting new, as you wear the stuff for a short time and they don’t really wear out so much. Then just sold it on again when I was done.

I’ve found some things on Gap’s clearance section, mostly winter items. I live in the middle of the desert and the closest store with maternity clothes is about 50 minutes away. I don’t care for clothes shopping online, but you gotta do what you’ve gotta do. Luckily, I’ve been able to squeeze by with regular clothes (mostly office setting attire and athletic ware), but I found quite a few things on the consignment site Thred Up recently and am hoping to be able to get by with the pieces I’ve haphazardly collected.

We have the same tastes! I LOVED my LOFT jeans, Gap tops and maxi dresses, and Pea in the Pod for everything else. I strongly disliked H&M. I bought my bras from Pickles and Ice Cream and Hot Milk. I do wish people had told me to purchase nursing friendly clothing so I didn’t have to buy an entirely new wardrobe again now that she’s here.

I have been buying a lot from consignment sales and goodwill. I am very discerning with how new things look and everything I’ve gotten has been either Target or Motherhood Maternity.

Destination Maternity is a good one too! I agree with the investing in a few good pairs of maternity jeans!

I always absolutely love your maternity clothes! I have also had good luck with The Gap, and Motherhood (which I think is the same as Pea in the Pod, maybe the cheaper version?). I got one dress I like through ASOS and a few things I actually like from H&M, but I ordered online so I had a bit more of a selection. I’m surprised you haven’t found anything at Old Navy- that is probably where most of my maternity clothes come from ha ha.

I really like Target and Old Navy maternity. The only bad thing about Old Navy is that you have to order the maternity clothes online or go to a store that’s in a mall, not a free standing store.

I actually had good luck with the items I got at H&M. The Portland store is pretty big (used to be a Saks) & has a decent selection. I didn’t mind the quality issues as I was only wearing the clothes for a few months. I still have a couple of tops hanging around!

I’m curious what you would consider maternity wear “essentials”. I’m 22 weeks and have been given few things, but I’m still primarily rockin my flowy-er pre-pregnancy tops with a couple maternity jeans because I’ve found the whole shopping while pregnant experience emotional and overwhelming. I know I’m probably going to need more stuff, but what would you suggest as far as X many tops would be ideal, X many jeans/pants, etc. Thanks girl!

I mostly got my maternity clothes from Kohls, Gap and Target. A few pieces from other places here and there, but mostly those three. Kohls and Gap have worked best for me. I don’t like how some of the Target shirts have the rouching on the front and back… at 37 weeks I’m finding that the rouching on the back is waayyy too long and the rouching on the front is almost too short. Plus some are a little on the short side now that I’m near my due date. Some of their shirts have been great though, so it’s just hit or miss. The shirts I have from the Gap and even some from Kohls just rouch in the front, so it looks a little better. I have maternity jeans from target that work alright. My favorite capri’s came from Kohls Oh Baby line. I would consider essentials to be a few good tanks that you can layer with cardigans, good pair of capri’s or jeans, depending on the season and skirts! To avoid having to buy more clothes later in pregnancy, make sure the shirts you get now have room to expand in LENGTH!

I also got a few pieces from a friend who recently had a baby. Maternity clothes are so expensive considering you only wear them a few months (I didn’t really need them until I was around 5 months). So save the money and borrow from friends or shop consignment sales. And then return the favor later on down the line!

I am 33 weeks pregnant and enjoy reading your blog because we are in about the same place! The majority of my maternity clothes are from Loft, Gap, and Old Navy. My Old Navy has a maternity section, but everything from Loft and Gap I have had to order online. I am in a weird point now because I would like to buy more fall maternity clothes, but then I think, “I might be pregnant only for 48 more days.” I browsed my Loft last weekend and CAN’T WAIT to be able to buy regular clothes again!

From experience of mine, I can see that you have never bought in this online store- Kleidung stock online , just because if you had, you would also mention it here. I am mothes of three kids, and I can’t imagine growing them without these clothes. So try my favourite retailer and you will see how good it is
