August Favorites

Plain and Simple

It’s time for my August favorites video!

I mistakenly left the settings on “public” while I was uploading it so about 1600 of you already watched this. Sneaky YouTube channel checkers.

Anyway, this is a round up of my favorite products from the month of August!

Mint lip balm (similar)

Also, Gravy makes an appearance so that’s always fun.

I, too, got this nail polish and LOVE it! I’ve been painting, crafting washing dishes yada yada and no chips. I’m in heaven. I think heaven has a lot of nail polish anyways but that’s another story 🙂

I looove Philosophy products and went online to see if I could find this scent anywhere… gone. The Kate effect strikes again 🙂

I’m a philosophy addict and have far too many of those 32 ounce bottles. Love. I give their body wash as gifts all the time since it doesn’t make your skin smell like their scents, it isn’t offensive to the scent-sensitive people.

Peaches. The only good ones I have had this year were from a roadside stand in SC in August. I got some at the Apex Farmers’ Market last weekend. Duds. They are horrible. Maybe just a bad peach year?

Peaches – Here in Canada we have had awesome peaches from British Columbia …I could send you some. lol. 🙂
I should try the philosophy products…they look addicting!

BTW…when are you getting your hair cut? I just got mine cut shoulder-length (from having it half way down my back for 3 years) and are needing inspiration for hairstyles. 🙂

LOVE these videos! I’m sure it’s on your list of things to blog about, but would love a room-by-room tour. We bought a new house the same time you guys did and I’d LOVE to see how you styled everything. However, I TOTALLY understand how its a work-in-progress and just picking out paint colors can send you to the nut house.

If you want to try any other stretch mark creams/oils/lotions, I highly recommend trying out “Mama Mio” products. I loved them!

Hey Kate, love all of your videos especially the product reviews! I’ve found so many new favorite products thru you. On the topic of Aveeno and stretch mark creams. If you love the Aveeno body lotion then you will probably really like the Aveeno baby lotions. My 16 month old has pretty dry skin/sensitive and all of the Aveeno baby products have been amazing and they really do absorb. Not that you need another stretch mark cream suggestion, but there was one I used from Motherhood called “Blooming Beautiful Bump Butter” that was AMAZING! I religiously used it every night as someone who is predisposed to stretch marks anyways and I have to say my stretch marks were very minimal. I love the scent it’s kind of a vanilla lavender and the texture is very silkly. I had really dry feed when I was pregnant and used it on them as well. Can’t wait to see more videos!

I’m loving the Vinylux polished too! I found mine at a Beauty Brands (kind of like an Ulta). So, they are out there at a salon-type store for people to buy.

I bought the Vinylux nail polish from amazon last week & it arrived last Thursday. I put it on that very nite & just took it off (with regular polish remover) yesterday. It didn’t chip -hooray!!! – but it did wear thin at the tips towards the end of the week. I filed my nails shorter, & plan to do thicker coats this time to see if that takes care of the “thinning” issue.
Love it so far!

Your favorites videos always crack me up! I love Mustela products, too. I use one of their lotions on my daughter who gets bad eczema in the winter. That stuff is EXPENSIVE for lotion, but its AWESOME!

I love that you mention how the necklace will look with grey. I LOVE(!!!) grey, like 60% of my clothes are grey, and no one understands it but you.

I don’t know if you have tried this, but my mom always ripened peaches in a brown paper bag. Maybe that’s the trick. Also, love all of your favorite videos.

Kate, You said that you have been craving a good peach. You should check out the Raleigh Farmer’s Market off Lake Wheeler. I go there every weekend just for peaches and watermelon. The best peaches are the the stand right next to the bathrooms in the end of the building with the tent at the end of it. That sounds totally not helpful but I can’t remember the name of the farm that grows them. But if you go there, find the bathrooms in the middle of the building and go to the closest peach stand. They are always perfectly ripe, never spoil on me, are just the right amount of sweet, and have good peach flavor (unlike the hard, watery-tasting, bland peaches you find at the grocery). 🙂

Thank you for another cool ‘favorite products’ blog. I am really interested in trying the Vinylux nail product. I do have a question about that: I have *super* sensitive nails. Any type of nail polish just makes my nails peel. Horribly. Any feedback on that? Or, feedback on a nail product that will nourish my nails instead of making them sick? Also, when I was pregnant (a life time ago), I totally craved ripe, fresh fruit. At the time I lived in Central CA and had access to the most amazing peaches! I ate bushels! Literally! Sorry you can’t find your crave!

I’ve been following your blog for several months now for the awesome hair tutorials and finally looked at your “about” section—I got really excited because I used to attend Summit (moved away for a few years for school–moving back to NC next year), too! Small world! 🙂 Love your “about” section blurb!

I just laughed out loud at your presentation of the peaches and cream bottle. So I have a question about heat styling/curling your hair – have you ever tried any of the Puidad products and if so, what do you think of them? I know they’re mainly made for curly hair but I’m wondering if they’re useful to holding a curl after a blowdry, etc as well. Thanks!

I got a vinylux pedicure at the beginning of august and other than some nailgrowth it is still strong! I am so impressed, even survived some heavily chlorinated public pools and usually thats the end for my pedicures. Love, Love, Love this polish

Kate- I’d love to buy the Lavishly Loved polish, but I’m having a hard time discerning the color from online pictures (no in-store option now). How would you describe the shade? And after a couple coats would you describe it as sheer or opaque? Thanks SO much for the help.

Kate is right.. I purchased two Vinylux colors from different sellers on Amazon, along with the Vinylux top coat. I did two coats of color and 2 coats of clear and let it dry for 15 mins and even sat in the sun (Since nature light helps harden polish) awhile and both times I’ve tried this manicure I’ve had several chips within the first 24 hours of wearing it. Bummed. Can’t wait till they open this product up to the public to buy at retailers (Instead of online through a non confirmed source.)

My wife used to use Olive Oil on her stretch marks (after 3 of our children), and while it may have helped a little – it was very oily and left stains everywhere. Not fun for me. After our last child (who was born 3 months ago), she had a stomach full of stretch marks. Her doctor recommended the Somatique Stretch Mark Treatment (from the Lady Soma brand), and she started using it all the time. MUCH BETTER! I have noticed remarkable improvement since she started using Somatique – and no more oily stains! My five year old son has even noticed how much nicer her stomach looks. I highly recommend it for you since you are looking to try Olive Oil, especially since its all natural and has no harmful chemicals in it.
