Panesonic Lumix G-5 Review (and a Giveaway!)

next
I am a Sensitive Soul

A Satur-Day in my life // shot with the Panasonic Lumix G-5.
(no adjustments made to the photos, all filters/effects were chosen on the camera)

I have really enjoyed getting to explore the Panasonic Lumix G-5. I would never call myself a photographer, but I happen to take thousands of photos for the blog–and I enjoy it. There is so much I could learn to manually adjust things based on certain lighting or situations, but it’s nice when the camera does a lot of that for you.

I love the size of the Lumix G-5. It’s light enough to carry around all day and small enough to be wrapped in a scarf and placed gently in my purse. It’s comfortable to hold, which I was skeptical about due to its size. You can feel that it’s a quality camera, without the weight of a bulky larger camera.

I was surprised to discover how much I noticed the “automatic transition to viewfinder from screen” feature. If you are using the screen to either look at photos that you’ve already taken, or to set up your shot for another photo, you can switch from screen to viewfinder by simply lifting the camera to your eye. I never would have thought that feature would be a selling point for me, but it’s nice to not have to click through a few buttons to switch back to the viewfinder. With all my cat photography, I’ve learned that you have to be quick and take about 1,000 photos to get at least one good one!

The filters that you can select on the camera are fun to play around with. They take photography from simply “taking a photo” to “creating an artistic shot”. Each filter you select will show you a version of how your photo will look when you are preparing to shoot. It’s intuitive to find the filters, and takes a bit of editing work off your plate!

Aside from being a blogger and taking photos for the blog, I love having a great camera to document our lives. I’m glad that I have so many images from various parts of our lives throughout the year. I look forward to taking photos of my kids, when we have them, and continuing to document family vacations.

If you are considering investing in a high quality camera, I’d suggest checking out the Panasonic Lumix G-5. You get all the wonderful features wrapped up in a lightweight and simple to use camera. You can get free shipping at Panasonic.com until December, 31 2012!

Honestly, I would love the automatic switch from viewfinder to screen. I am currently using an old Sony Cybershot, and it has a button you have to push to switch from viewfinder to screen, and I always forget to push it! That simple convenience of the automatic switch would make a huge difference to me, as I like to switch back and forth quite a bit. Also, the 14 creative filters sounds like they would be fun to play with!

I love that it sounds like anyone can use it! I recently bought a Canon DSLR camera and spent A LOT of money on it. I tried it out at my friends wedding recently and the pictures were just OK. I played with numerous settings and only got decent pictures in B&W mode. It made me very sad because they weren’t happy with the professional photog they hired which means they were really looking forward to using some of their guests pictures. Sounds like I bought the wrong camera! 🙁

Holy mess! I can not believe you are giving away a camera! I seriously need a new one, my current camera does not meet the quality standards that are anywhere close to this camera! I have spent the past few months researching the best camera for my small upcoming buisness & this seems to be a perfect fit! I need a camera that can efficently document my life as well as my business! I am co-partners in a upcoming decorating business, and a camera of this level is something that is not on my “can-afford at the moment” list. I need a new one that can take clear and precise pictures of products and events! Thanks for this giveaway, I am an avid follower of you blog! I check it religiously, Happy Thanksgiving!

I love the fact that it is compact and takes amazing photos. A few years ago I dove in and purchased a Nikon D3000 with a few lenses and thought I would take these amazing photographs. They aren’t bad but I really love the ease in which you can switch things up and the compact size of the Panasonic. I do love my big camera but sometimes you just need/want to take a smaller one that can take really nice pictures.

As a photographer myself, I am impressed by the built-in processing of this camera! The colors are vivid and the bw is impressive in its detailing! Wow, I never would have even considered this camera before seeing these pictures. I am personally a fan of the bw of (I’m assuming) your husband doing some studying–the contrast is there, but so are the little details. Great review!

Also I love the quality of the pictures!! My previous “pocket” camera took lousy pictures and as soon as I had my daughter I stopped using it cause my pictures were grainy.

Also I love the quality of the photos! My old “pocket” camera took very grainy photos and I stopped using it when my daughter was born because I couldn’t take good looking photos with that old (and horrible) camera!

I hope I win this! It would be a great addition to my family 🙂

Uh, I love that “automatic transition to viewfinder from screen” feature! I have cats, too, and they are sneaky! They always seem to know when I’m about to get my camera ready. Someday, when we have kids, I just KNOW they will be even faster than the cats! Haha…

I have 2 favorite things about this Panasonic camera. The first is that it is small enough to carry around. I already lug a big purse and heavy diaper bag, the last thing I need is an additional big bag for a big camera. The second thing is that even though it’s a pretty small camera, it actually takes incredible pictures! Most smaller cameras (mine included!) take poor quality photos and since the lens is slow, I often miss the perfect shot!
