Well, the bathroom is finally made over! And to say it's brighter and livelier would be an understatement.
Let's look back at the before photo.
The owners' sand color didn't work with our existing gold shower curtain. And with a neutral basket, flowers, and picture, the colors were all very boring. The rest of the home has great colors, from grays to dusty blues, so the sandy bathroom looked neglected and sad.
I found the shower curtain that I loved at Target and used the Chip It! tool to find the perfect paint color to spruce up the bathroom. Of all the colors that were "chipped," I liked the yellow the best. It was bright and definitely bold enough for a small room like a bathroom.
And so painting began. There was lots of tape and detailing, but the paint went on nicely. My husband and I had plenty of laughs trying to get around each other in there. And after two coats, we were left with a bright little bathroom!
See how the yellow walls pick up the yellow in the shower curtain? That's exactly what I wanted to happen.
I kept the towels white so as to not have too many colors going on in one small room.
I also stuck with neutral and light accessories. The shower curtain faces the doorway, so that acts as "art." It's a busy enough pattern that I didn't need to fill the walls with coordinating artwork. I did need to fill in the space between the mirrors and the toilet, so I went with a tall vase with some big flowers.
Slipping a little placemat on the top of the toilet is another way to ground the items without using a basket (like I had done before).
A lot of the accessories came from World Market, one of my favorite stores. The hand towel holder came from Target, as well as the towel it's holding!
I'm so glad that we brightened up this bathroom!

I'd really like to redo my mother's bedroom. The walls had suffered some water damage, so that needs to be be repaired. They are also overdue for a coat of paint, and she could use some new furniture. My mother spends so much of her life doing things for others, but she rarely takes the time to do things for herself. Having a budget to redo her room would be great for her.

ReplyDeleteI am in the planning process for an office re-do and would so love a little help! I haven't tried "Chip it" just yet as I am still deciding on the decor. My vision at the moment...striped walls with splashes of color throughout the room (this would be quite a courageous move for this "beige" girl). By the way...love the bathroom update!

In an instant, we'd be greedy and pick our bedroom. I guess I made the "mistake" of painting our entire house brown because the outside is brown and we have dark wood trim and doors. I really wanted gray, but I feel like we can't do the gray because of the dark stuff. And then after all this paint talk (thanks, Kate) we painted the living room and hallway blue (still can't do gray, we have this brown/yellow brick fireplace). It looks amazing. So now we want to repaint everything--the kitchen is spared, I believe. Of course, I bet (look how I am... sneaky) with that kind of money, we could redo our daughter's room, PLUS our bedroom. So that's what we'd do. But we'd do our room first. I have no idea what color. We seriously went to buy containers for our closet organization and came home with $100 of paint. So. We're spontaneous like that. gondo99@hotmail.com

I would definitely like to redo our den/movie room... and with the Chip It tool I could figure out a good balance for the zillion colors currently down there!!
ReplyDeleteI desperately NEED to redo our guest bathroom! The owner's before us used an arsenal of painting techniques that just dont work. The walls are sponge painted an ugly olive green color and the trim and cabinets are antiqued which really just created an equally ugly green-brown finish. Even the accesories (cabinet knobs, towel holders, etc) are hideous. I also bought a shower curtain that I loved and plan to use it as inspiration for the rest of the room so the Chip It tool will be really useful. Thanks Kate!

I would love love love to redo our master bathroom. The previous owners painted every interior wall the same shade of cocoa brown and it's not working for me in the bathroom!

My bedroom absolutely needs a do-over :) I'd love to change the colors.

We are dying to make over our dining room! It's the last 'big' room in our house we have yet to touch.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love your shower curtain! I used a shower curtain from Target to make a headboard :)

I would love to paint my living room. Right now it is a sailor-ish navy blue color and I would love it to be a fresh green :) we've already stocked up on decorations at garage sales so all that's missing is the paint!

ReplyDeleteI'd love to makeover our bedroom. With six little ones running around we keep putting off our room to finish other areas of the house and hubs and I need sanctuary! :) crwilson0179 (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteMy kids room, it's so plain right now would love to give it some color and make it fun.

I would love to redo my guest/spare bedroom. Right now it just seems to collect everything that doesn't belong somewhere else. I would enjoy having the option to invite friends and family to stay over and partake in my hospitality. Thanks

ReplyDeleteI would love to redo my master bath! New paint, enlarge the shower, redo the floors, the tub is caving in so need to fix that, new fixtures, ETC. It's pretty old and falling apart. :)
I would redo by bathroom too. I have attempted it twice, which just resulted in three different paint colors patches on the walls.

I would choose my kitchen. The walls are plain white, horrid green countertops, and very medium cabinetry. I miss my old kitchen with bright pops of red.

ReplyDeleteLove it! My husband and I are in the process of buying our first home, we close in 2 weeks! Exciting, but it's a foreclosure that needs work, so we are planning on painting the whole house, but specifically we could use it for the 3/4 bath that currently has hunter/woodsy themed wallpaper. baran.rachel(at)gmail(dot)com.
ReplyDeleteI would love to redo my master bath. It is a very obnoxious red and green room with gold accents.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loooooooooooooove what you have done! It is so gorgeous! The nursery could use some sprucing up - right now it is suuuuuuuuuper plain. I have a boy right now but I am hoping for a girl next so yellow or green (or green and brown!) are what I am contemplating.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

I would use it for our family room. My husband and I rearrange the furniture in there quite often and I always wonder about what color to paint the walls! j.salas26@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI will be moving away for graduate school and will be renting a room from a great roommate/landlord who is giving me pretty much total freedom in sprucing up the space! The basement room is big, but awkwardly proportioned. It still has cement floors, minimal natural light, and it's sponge-painted a dreary gray-blue that makes it feel like a cave. I won't have to pay for the carpeting, but making the space feel cozy and warm will be a challenge for my student-sized budget! I would be absolutely thrilled if I could get help in making this happen!!!

I'd like to redo my kitchen! I'd have to win like 7 of these things to cover that cost, but new paint would be wonderful all by itself. We've recently moved into a 50's style ranch house and the kitchen came with paneling...it's got a bunch of holes in it, I think to make it look like driftwood? Anyway its horrible! lweitzel@siumed.edu
ReplyDeleteI will use it for my kitchen or bathroom!

l love how you pulled the yellow out!

I would love to get our basement finished so I can finally have a defined craft area! My son can now grab things off of the kitchen table, so I no longer have anywhere to work!
