An Exciting Opportunity

You may have seen on the Facebook page last night that I am going to be a speaker at the Becoming Conference this September in Asheville, North Carolina.

And I am so excited about it.

I met Jen, one of the creators of this conference, at Blissdom in February. We chatted for a bit and we're both surprised when we learned we both live in North Carolina. She sent me an e-mail a few weeks later asking if I was interested.

It was such a surprise and I immediately thought, "I've never spoken at a conference before. I don't think I can do it". But after the initial fear wore off, and I thought more about it, I began to feel more excited than nervous about it.

And I started practicing my introduction on the way home from work that very day.

I'm going to be speaking about the things I blog about. I'll share my story of how I became a hairstylist, the inner battle I fought about the vanity of it, and how I've grown in this career. Also, I'll talk about my blog, and cover a lot of the same content that I write about here. Hair, makeup, outfits, etc.

I'm really looking forward to it.

And I hope to meet you if you are able to come!

A few details about the conference:

Last year, it sold out in 1 day. So, make sure to like the Facebook page to stay informed about when the tickets go on sale.

The tickets are approx. $100.00. A great price for the amazing line-up of speakers they have.

  10. I think you will do a fantastic job, your blog is so amazing to follow. You always strike just the right note, being informative and very approachable, with a bit of fun and humour. I found your comment about vanity interesting.....I struggle sometimes when I hear women say "I never have time for myself because I put my family first and don't spend any time on my clothes or hair". Makes me wonder if I am vain or self absorbed because I do care for my family and put them first BUT I also like to look good and feel good about myself. Your blog has inspired me and reinforced that is ok to be interested in my appearance. Thanks for sharing your insight. The conference is lucky to have you !

  15. Asheville is an awesome place! If you haven't been there before, definitely take some time to check out the downtown area. SkyBar is great, and there are loads of cute shops and restaurants. So unique. It is my hometown, so I am a little proud.

  16. I'm a fairly new follower of your blog and I love it! The fact that your Christian walk influences the things you post, say, and do is wonderful. I, too, would love to hear about how God has helped you overcome your "inner battle." Thanks for your example!

  17. Wow! I wish I lived in the area so I could go and hear you speak! You've really inspired me to allow my faith to show a little more on my sleeve than what I have been doing. I teach (public) so it's a delicate subject, but I kind of just realized that it made me human, and that's what kids need to see, too. My greatest gift to them is showing them I'm human and have made all the same mistakes and had all the same heartaches and somehow I still get up in the morning and can be happy. It's made a huge difference! You carry it with such grace; I hope to someone, they feel the same thing about me!

  18. Oh and I talked at a conference this spring (for teaching) and I was so freaked out I thought I'd puke. I literally kept a box right near my podium just in case. Then immediately there was a tech glitch and although that should have been the push I needed to die right there, I laughed out loud, said man, isn't that just the way it goes? And I warmed right up to the crowd, we had a good laugh, and went on with it. Murphy's law... it's something like, if it can go wrong, it will definitely be with your speakers/mic/computer and will definitely NOT be easily fixed without standing on one foot holding the mic at a 90 degree angle. ;) good luck!
