Elegant Half Up

I was planning on doing a BIG reveal of my new studio next weekend, but I finished my “art” for it already and I cannot wait to show you all. Thanks for all your input on my color scheme! It was really fun to see what colors you all liked!

You may have read that I won a fantastic stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils through Hyphen Interiors’ giveaway. Well talk about perfect timing. I knew I had to use my new stencil somehow in my new room.

Given the speed at which I must move into my studio, I decided against stenciling the huge wall. It would have been time consuming and probably would have stressed me out a bit. 🙂

So after many discussions with my mom, a very talented interior decorator/designer, and with input from my sister and hubs, I decided to stencil 4 huge canvases so I could get the effect of a stenciled wall, without actually stenciling the wall.

***Get this: I went to Michaels on Sunday ( 9.11.2011) to buy the canvases. They were on sale last week for 40% off. I was just HOPING that they would still be on sale. Well they were. But instead they were 60% off! I bought 4 massive canvases (approx. 4.5×3 ft) that were originally $60.00 each, for a total of $100.00. Yes.***

My colors. I’m using Behr paint.

Sort of impossible to paint with cats around. I had to kick them out of their favorite place.

The canvases look white, but it’s actually a very light grey(Subtle Touch).

As I was painting, I thought to myself ,”oh man. oh man. This is not good. This is not going to look good. I’m ruining it.”

But then I lifted the stencil and it was great.

I have one Youthful Coral (thats the paint color) canvas, and the rest are Pewter Ring

I found that since I was stenciling on a canvas and they surface was not as hard as a wall, I needed to tape the stencil to the canvas on the bottom side. If you were stenciling on the wall, it would be much much easier. And you would be able to lay the stencil flatter and get a cleaner finish!

So here are my canvases! I’m going to hang them close to each other in a square, 2 on top, 2 below, on the main wall.

The stencil was very easy to use. It just takes a little thought and measuring to get the right lay out. Other than that, anyone could do it! And Cutting Edge Stencils sends a thorough instruction sheet with each stencil. That was very helpful.

So thanks to Cutting Edge Stencils, Hyphen Interiors and Michaels sales, I have inexpensive but completely unique wall art!

Love it! That’s such a good twist on the wall stencil idea (which quite frankly terrifies me)!

Kate what is the square footage of your new studio. Do you prefer this over a typical salon and what are your hours.
